Who should Sky use as commentators and pundits?

Post by TheLeprechaun »

We all agree that Adam Smith is woeful as commentator. I'm not the biggest fan of Paul Smith as pundit or commentator. Coldwell annoys me too.

I can tolerate Froch. Bellew is OK when he's not talking about himself

I like Woodhall on commentary.

What's really lacking is someone who can carry it blow by blow like Ian Darke did. The americans have Lampley.

Woodhalls analysis is great. He is a bit dull at times but knowledge is spot on and often sees bit the average punter doesn't.
Malignaggi is quite good but can be too much so part of a 3 man team wouldn't be bad.
Is Ian Darke not doing it any more?

I always liked Steve Holdsworth on Eurosport. He can be refreshingly honest.
I can imagine him not fiting in at Sky
"Well tonight we have Paul Smith, probably a British level fighter at best, competing for a supposed world title.
Let's be honest, this ordinary title is little more than a runners up prize... difficult to get excited about such baubbles"

Woodhall is excellent imo

Maliginaggi is as well

Froch is good but I don't like hearing him talk about duper middles. He switches from impartial insightful commentator to the arrogant fighter mode

Getting rid of mcclory, watt was a good start as they'd had there times and showed bias (either way) often

More Jamie Moore, Mallignaggi, Ed Robinson, Froch, Bellew (sometimes).

I'd like to see less of Smith and that show pony Nelson but that's not gonna happen. I didn't mind Smith on commentary for a bit but he seems to be becoming more nauseating recently.

One of Smith's most nauseating tendencies is that he tends to blether on randomly as opposed to actually providing an account of what is occurring in the ring. e.g. providing an entire list of potential opponents or ranked fighters in a weight division....it's as if he feels a need to either demonstrate knowledge (although anyone with a laptop and a pencil could compile such lists) or is incapable of original comment.
Currently, allegedly / BT is miles ahead of Sky in terms of credible commentary and analysis, in my opinion.

There is nobody.Woodall is the best of a bad bunch in this country.

I think Bellew knows his stuff and I enjoy his analysis when hes in the studio but hes too biased when commentating.

Coldwell has to go :witzend:

The one video I've heard with David Allen commenting, he might as well be Nostradamus. He knew what was going to happen before it did, picked it like a dirty nose he did.

The BT / BN team is currently the dream team - add Ian Darke and you have full set - don't mind Rawling either TBF

Dave Allen excellent, the new BTBN team are great, thank god, cause the whole sky team are absolutely f***ing useless, a bunch of dreary suited and booted cheerleaders, singing for their supper.
And Adam Smith is absolutely THE F***ING WORST.

Darke & Watt were brilliant imo. Not many commentators really capture the excitement of the action sincerely, but they did.

I think you need someone in the frame of Watt or Manny Steward that have been around the block and have a real love of the action. Guys like Haye Bellew etc are still too raw given they are still active.

Not a fan of boxer bellew but like watching his fights...

I honestly think he is a brilliant commentator.

Speaks the truth and honestly raw.

Very good in fairness to him

Why do commentators feel the need to talk over the walk-on of each fighter?

Let us soak up the atmosphere! John Rawling does it and Adam Smith virtually creams over it.

Paul Smith is about as dull as they come, I struggle to see why he is on. Adam has just started shouting, be it facts or possible opponents... Guys, we want to watch the fight!

BT much better at the moment, mainly down to Richie Woodhall, Paul Dempsey, Barry Jones and Steve Bunce.

As someone else mentioned and I agree my choice would be Steve Holdsworth makes the fight a bit more interesting and not dull why have sky not tried to use him?? !

Richie woodhall excellent unbiased analysis doesn't hold.back gets his point across well.
