Errol Spence Laughs at Jeff Lacy Comparisons From Team Brook
Errol Spence (21-0, 18 KOs) has laughed off some of the verbal jabs being fired by IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook and his team members.
There have been comparisons made, from the other side, that Spence could suffer the same fate as another United States Olympian who came over to the UK more than a decade ago, Jeff Lacy.
In 2006, Lacy was undefeated and viewed as the next big thing - but he was dominated by huge underdog Joe Calzaghe.
Spence is not bothered by any of the negative comments being made about him.
“Just how I’m built. I’m a guy who’s never too high, never too low, I’m right in the middle. Not a lot of stuff excites me, not a lot of stuff gets me going. I see a lot of stuff, Errol Spence is going to be this or he can’t do this, he’s Jeff Lacy. It doesn’t get to me. I’m never too high, never too low, that’s my motto, just right in the middle," Spence said.
“Everyone got an opinion, that’s their opinion at the end of the day. I know what I’m capable of, I know I can fight, I know who I am, I’m not worried about what another person says about me at all."
Spence is going to switch a few things up for this fight. He plans to show some new moves from his arsenal.
“There are a couple of things I’m going to do that people aren’t expecting. A lot of times in my fights there are a lot of things I don’t have to do or don’t have to show, because I don’t have to. There’s a lot of things I do in sparring that I don’t show in the ring because I don’t have to do it," Spence said.
"There are a lot of different things I am going to show, I’m going to use. There are certain things we work on for him, but we are basically working on ourselves, trying to correct everything we’re doing wrong."

Mind games
I'm 100% sure brook is preparing himself for a really good opponent, not a hype job

Brook is going to wish he had vacated the belt.
Re: Errol Spence Laughs at Jeff Lacy Comparisons From Team Brook
They might as well call off the fight as spence has given mayweather a hard time sparring and knocked out Hindu so clearly he's the better man!Badhusker wrote:Brook is going to wish he had vacated the belt.
Re: Errol Spence Laughs at Jeff Lacy Comparisons From Team Brook
In the verbal war standings. Team Brook 1 , Team Spence 0. Funny stuff.

One of those "different things" best be improved defense.Ruthless-RKO wrote: Spence is going to switch a few things up for this fight. He plans to show some new moves from his arsenal.

Last I checked he was still Kell Brook, a damned fine boxer.RandomUsername wrote:This kid Chris Algiere is pretty worthless. The next Floyd or the next RJJr or someone like that would have gotten him out of there in one or two rounds instead of needing 5 rounds to do it. This kid Errol Spence I mean sure he's a future world champion and all that but this fight isn't about him, he is a future world champion, there's no question about that but he's not the next big thing, this fight is about Kell Brook. The question about Kell Brook is the following, is he the next Naseem Hamed or is he just a Junior Witter, Rhyan Rhodes or Johnny Nelson?
Re: Errol Spence Laughs at Jeff Lacy Comparisons From Team Brook
Im pretty sure Klitschko and Fury never sparred. Steward brought him into camp but they never ended up sparring.RandomUsername wrote:Who is Hindu?Ossyrules wrote:They might as well call off the fight as spence has given mayweather a hard time sparring and knocked out Hindu so clearly he's the better man!Badhusker wrote:Brook is going to wish he had vacated the belt.
Did you hear about that time that Wladimir Klitschko was knocking Tyson Fury down in sparring with his jab? Or about how Klitschko knocked AJ out in sparring? Sparring stories are worth nil.
Re: Errol Spence Laughs at Jeff Lacy Comparisons From Team Brook
I think Spence will end up stopping Brook with body shots.
Re: Errol Spence Laughs at Jeff Lacy Comparisons From Team Brook
I'm thinking he doesn't stop Brook at all, but I do expect he'll win.
Re: Errol Spence Laughs at Jeff Lacy Comparisons From Team Brook
Floyd almost never got any half decent out in 2 rounds (with the exception of Angel Manfredy at 130 pounds). Even a past his best Sharmba Mitchell took Floyd 6 rounds to dispatch. If you're gonna say a fighter doesn't compare to another fighter, at least compare him to the actual fighter instead of a fictional fighter you've invented in your head.RandomUsername wrote:This kid Chris Algiere is pretty worthless. If Floyd fought Algieri he likely wouldn't even have stopped him at all, or if he were to stop him it'd be well into the fight.
Re: Errol Spence Laughs at Jeff Lacy Comparisons From Team Brook
Floyd hasn't knocked anyone out since your mother was lance corporal... So how's he going to get Algieri out??? Pacman and Khan couldn't do it!!!RandomUsername wrote:This kid Chris Algiere is pretty worthless. Spence ran over Floyd when he had 14 fights and they were sparring for Robert Guerrero... Errol was attacking Floyd easily and nailing him with right hooks and lefts in close from every angle -- and a ton of things Robert Guerrero could never do in his dreams... So Floyd decided it wasn't productive sparring.
Roy never did too well with heavy punching southpaws who were taller than him... Antonio Tarver for instance knocked Roy out in 2 rounds. He asked Roy if he was gonna have any excuses after he did that... Which Roy had plenty of excuses after their 1st fight when Tarver beat Roy up and made him look like a tyro.

You've missed the sarcasm in my post mate! I hope Kell smashes this guy.

I think the Lacy comparison was just to get a rise out of Team Spence. However, I do feel Spence is a bit overrated. I am picking Brook to win.

Lacy was the betting favourite with English bookmakers.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Calzaghe was a huge underdog? Who told you that?Ruthless-RKO wrote:Errol Spence (21-0, 18 KOs) has laughed off some of the verbal jabs being fired by IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook and his team members.

Re: Errol Spence Laughs at Jeff Lacy Comparisons From Team Brook
This is actually funny. Calzaghe was 40-0, and on at least his 15th defense.
I don't remember what the betting odds were, but let me ask this..........can anyone name someone Lacy beat before fighting Calzaghe without looking it up? I doubt it.
Making a comparison to Spence and Lacy is beyond dumb.

Re: Errol Spence Laughs at Jeff Lacy Comparisons From Team Brook
Will anyone be able to name any of Spence's opponents prior to Brook in 10 years? Neither Lacy or Spence faced much adversity prior to crossing the pond. Spence's opposition has had so little pop that he has almost entirely disregarded defense. That could lead to disaster on a more devastating level than what happened to Lacy who was simply exposed for the boxer he was.Badhusker wrote:This is actually funny. The comparisons between Lacy and Spence were bound to happen because they are obvious: the undefeated records, the jump up in competition (although Calzaghe was far more accomplished than Brook is currently), the weak prior opposition, the predictions of a very competitive fight, the travel across the pond.
Is this likely to have a similar result to the Calzaghe whitewash? Very unlikely, but the comparisons are valid.
Re: Errol Spence Laughs at Jeff Lacy Comparisons From Team Brook
Going into the Calzaghe fight, Jeff Lacy's resume was like...
RTD Robin Reid (220 boxrec rating)
TKO Syd Vanderpool (204 boxrec rating)
Made the U.S. Olympic team. Didn't medal.
Lots of hype.
Going into the Brook fight, Spence's resume is like...
TKO Chris Algieri (185 boxrec rating)
KO Leonard Bundu (145 boxrec rating)
TKO Chris Van Heerden (141 boxrec rating)
Made the U.S. Olympic team. Didn't medal.
Lots of hype.
Does Spence even deserve to be compared to Jeff Lacy? He may not even be worthy of that comparison based on what he's done. He might need at least some wins over Sam Eggington and Adrian Broner before he's earned the right to be compared to Jeff Lacy.
On an unrelated note, Kell Brook isn't Calzaghe. He doesn't have 18 title wins. In terms of accomplishment, he's more where Mikkel Kessler was at. But I think it goes without saying that Kessler would've also beat Lacy.

Re: Errol Spence Laughs at Jeff Lacy Comparisons From Team Brook
People back in 2006 could remember Lacy's opponents about as vividly as people in 2017 can remember Spence's opponents. People now can remember Lacy's opponents about as vividly as people in 2028 will be able to remember that Spence fought uh.... who was that one gatekeeper who never fought anybody else? Oh yeah, Buh... Bundu? I guaran-f*cking-tee you that nobody in 2028 is going to have the slightest clue that Spence fought Bundu or Chris Van Gatekeeper or w/e jabronies he's fought.Badhusker wrote:can anyone name someone Lacy beat before fighting Calzaghe without looking it up? Without looking it up I remember he had beaten Omar Sheika, Scott Pemberton and Syd Vanderpool. I forget the other names, but I'd seen other fights of his too.Badhusker wrote:This is actually funny. Calzaghe was 40-0, and on at least his 15th defense.
