Mayweather/McGregor Updates

Post by Impractical Poster »

UFC's president, Dana White, has confirmed that star client Conor McGregor has agreed to terms for a boxing-rules super-fight with Floyd Mayweather.

"Conor and I have agreed on a deal," White told ESPN.

Though "a bunch of lawyers" are looking over McGregor's agreement, White will present the terms to Mayweather adviser Al Haymon and Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe this week.

Details of his discussion with McGregor are yet to be made public, but they won't have changed too much from the $75 million (£58 million) payday White mentioned last month.

If that is the case, it is likely former five-weight world champion Mayweather will be offered a larger fight purse of $100 million (£77 million).

This would be in line with the $100 million Mayweather received for outpointing Manny Pacquiao in 2015 (though he scooped a total of $200 million after pay-per-view earnings were finalized).

"It's either going to happen this year or it's never going to happen at all," White added, reiterating the "now or never" rhetoric used by Showtime earlier this month.

It's been a on going saga. The question is where are they going to get the money to pay Mayweather 100 million. That's insane.

Everyone should stop talking about this freak show. It doesn't deserve our attention.

Everybody will watch the farce. Because it’s a circus. They want it to be spectacular but it won't be.

Fans will host big PPV fight parties all over the country... Floyd will insist, “One left hand from McGregor could put me out.” If it hits you – and it won’t. Mayweather is one of the greatest con artists and marketers of all time. He packages BS and sells it.

The only question is if Mayweather accepts the financial terms... He probably just dragged this circus out so long because he loves the attention and loves to aggravate people with false promises... He may price himself out again but maybe he’ll do it. Why not for 100 million? Wouldn't you in his place?

Evel Knievel talked about doing a motorcycle jump over the Snake River Canyon for many years. “It can be done. I need a rocket propelled motorcycle that can reach speeds of 500 mph. I'm building the motorcycle myself and testing it. The science is there to support me and I’m going to do it.”

It was the worst show on earth -- but it captivated millions because of the marketing. The con artist climbed into a cheap jerry-built rocket with prop “motorcycle wheels” fastened to it. The rocket blasted off and quickly fizzled out. The parachute opened and dropped Knievel just over the edge of the canyon... TV film crews came from all over the world to watch this duplicitous event. Everybody was stunned. “Is that it??? ... That was the motorcycle jump over the Snake River Canyon???”

Yup. The rocket takes off at 2:30 of the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llzIVDbvSAc

No doubt that might generate some of it. I'm under the impression Mayweather is demanding a upfront guarantee of 100 million. If TMT co promotes the bout with White. Doubt Mayweather is going to cut himself a check out of his own bank account. The upfront money if that's the case has to be generated from somewhere, someone, White?

Be interesting how this is viewed in 25-30 years. "That did how many views Grandad ?".

This will kill any future MMA/Boxing type clusterf**k/extravaganza. Floyd, Conor and the UFC will all makeout like bandits of course.

We will all struggle to explain this mess to future generations.

I Originally thought this would never happen. now, I'm not so sure. Things are getting pretty serious.

It is definitely a circus if it happens. But, it will probably get massive views. It would be hyped and advertised to death. And the pre fight antics would be worth pay alone....which it might.

If it happens. It's still a 49-0 Boxer vs. 0-0 Boxer making his debut. Mayweather will win again which will probably make some unhappy about it. Unhappy about shelling out the money. Hoping to see Mayweather get beat. McGregor has no chance.

My prediction is Mayweather won't risk it and is determined not to... He wants the publicity and acclaim only -- not the actual fight.
