Francesco Patera - new EBU champion at lightweight

Post by olij999 »

I see Francesco Patera won the European title away in Finland a week or so ago - http://boxrec.com/boxer/625357. Given that he lost a split decision to Sean Dodd a couple of fights back, he's a known quantity in the UK so would expect UK lightweights to be clamouring for a shot at him. Would be nice to see Dodd rematch him and hopefully add the European title to his Commonwealth one.

PS - Dodd was announced to the crowd on the pitch at Prenton Park (Tranmere Rovers) before the second leg of their National League play-off semi against Aldershot. He got a very strong reception from the 10,000+ crowd. Would love to see him fight at Prenton Park in a big fight (but as a Tranmere fan and boxing fan, I am ignoring the obvious economic issues there...). As an aside, when he did a lap of the pitch, he had his Commonwealth title belt and WBC international with him - no prizes for guessing which one he held onto and which one he gave to the Rover mascot (a man in an 8-foot-tall dog outfit)...

Still wondering what is going to happen to this guy at lightweight - am surprised he hasn't been booked in for a title defence yet, particularly in Britain. Anyone know anything about him?
