I watched a Jeff "Left Hook" Lacy fight on tv probably ESPN that was in Beverly Hills,CA.. At Hugh Hefner's playboy mansion he fought Dennis Grant. I wouldn't have remembered the opponent if I hadn't just looked it up. 2003

Calzaghe was 7/4 with English bookmakers, I know because I backed him heavily.

The only name who I knew who Lacy had beat was Robin Reid, and it was quite a statement to be fair because without looking it up I'm sure he was the first man to stop Reid... And he actually bounced him around a bit

I don't remember what the betting odds were, but let me ask this..........can anyone name someone Lacy beat before fighting Calzaghe without looking it up? I doubt it.

Making a comparison to Spence and Lacy is beyond dumb.

For the record I'm in heavy on Spence even though I like Brook. Waiting on Davis & Spence on the last two legs of various accas worth £2,700 to me - and boy do I need it! :witzend:

They might as well call off the fight as spence has given mayweather a hard time sparring and knocked out Hindu so clearly he's the better man!
Which hindu did he knock out? Mr Patel?

If spence wins I give him all the credit. He'll be the best in the division as far as I'm concerned.

The jokes are harmless but it's too easy to make them due to the people that simply write brook off so easily. That's the biggest joke of all.

I have no axe to grind with spence

I don't know of anyone writing off Brook like he will be an easy fight. I certainly am not, and doubt if Spence is either. He is preparing for the best Kell Brook. I think it will be a fantastic fight, even halfway through and a real battle. I look for Spence to take control the second half of the fight, wear Brook down and stop him. Saying that does not mean I am writing off Brook as an easy fight.

As far as records, names on resumes, etc. None of that will matter fight night. Brook is more accomplished at this point in his career than Spence, and should be, being a pro several more years. Brook's resume could look much better if he didn't have so many fights "fall through". (Bradley, Alexander, Rios, Khan)

I've seen many predictions that Spence will win easily, against the likes of Brook, Thurman, Garcia, etc.

There's certainly no shortage of Spence hype, though he's looked very good (admittedly against mediocre opposition) and I'll be surprised if he ever appears as limited as Lacy. I think Spence-Brook will be highly competitively over the first half or so, but I like Spence to gradually take over.

Yeah, that was Lacy's 7th highest rated opponent going into the Calzaghe fight. Just to compare apples-to-apples, Errol Spence's 7th highest rated opponent is Emmanuel Lartei Lartey. I've never even heard that name in my life before today. Spence fought him in 2013, so 14 years from 2013 will be 2027. Imagine people in 2027 actually knowing who Emmanuel Lartei Lartey is or that Spence fought him.

If someone doesn't see anything special in Spence, I totally understand. I railed broner for ages, but it wasn't just because of hype. I never saw it in him. We'll see soon enough.

You're right I'm grafting too hard for laughs! Maybe if I became more casual and joke about acne like you did to kalan it'd be funnier!!!

Anyway spence will completely be the real deal if he wins.

If he loses I can't see how he's the real deal. At a stretch if he fights great in a losing effort, but generally you gotta win big fights to prove that claim

Yes I did say that, and stand behind it. I do think Brook will wish he had vacated. How he gets beat won't matter. I too will give Brook full credit if he wins. I also thank Khan for refusing to fight Brook, otherwise we wouldn't be seeing this fight.

I also still laugh at the Lacy comparisons. Spence has a resume easily forgotten like Lacy's, but if he gets this win it will begin his legacy. There have been many hype jobs he could be compared to, and we could go on all day about it. He does have a few common opponents with Thurman, Pacquiao, and Khan though, and did better than all three. Things I like about Spence besides his skills is his hunger, hard work, confidence, yet realization that he has a lot to prove. He reminds me of Crawford in that sense. Anyway, if you saw Lacy, and have seen Spence, they have quite a different skill set imo.

I'd consider saying he should ditch the title as writing him off. Saying he should duck the fight is saying he has no chance to win is it not? So that'd be writing him off in my book.

The lacy comparison holds no merit and as I first said in this thread, it's mind games talk pre fight nothing else. I see no similarities in lacy and spence, except they're both American and hyped to the rafters, and they're coming to England to fight the champ. As fighters and style, no.

I have no problems with anyone seeing something in spence to think he'd be good. My main issue with spence fans is when the "he did this in sparring", "whose brook fought", "look at what he did to algieri" arguments comes out as their flawed.
