BoxRec's Team of the Season - 2016/17

Post by fightfan95 »

Let's see who we think the team of the season is... I'll create a poll each day for the positions in a standard 4-4-2 with 5 options... 2 days to vote on each poll. At the end I'll create the team the members of BoxRec have picked! I'll also do a manager poll!

Lets start with the Goalkeeper!

Difficult. I've gone lloris but it's more kind of on an overall defensive effort from spurs

I'm going to vote Jordan Pickford. He has been the only positive this season for Sunderland (Defoe maybe as well) and can't see him staying there for much longer.

It's reported Pickford is going to Everton in the summer for 17 million.... too much?

Should Pickford be England's number 1?

Slightly biased for Lloris this season. De Gea wasn't as good this season compared to other seasons, where he was clearly the best keeper in the league.

De Gea has been a little down on last season, not the same match winner. Pickford however has won Sunderland a lot points, and is their best player.

Not this day and age. He's a young keeper with bags of talent. And especially considering how English players are inflated these days!

£17m for a young English keeper is an absolute bargain. Kirkland went for about 12m years ago. I wouldn't have been surprised to see him go for £35m+

No he didn't, it was £6million. It was a lot but he was considered a nailed on success by many but he soon revealed himself to be pretty average and made of glass.

I've seen quotes from 7-12m once add ons were included.

Either way it was a British record and huge transfer fee for a keeper

He may well be now but Kirkland was at the time
