Boxing fans
Are boxing fans on average less intelligent than the rest of the worlds population?
I read through this forum almost every day and become so irritated, as the majority of posts are so stupid!!! So many people here state opinions like they are facts, are not open to intelligent discussions but rather state why someone is the biggest ducker in boxing.
I can deal with posts from casuals, for example I saw a post today stating that spence is not the real deal because he took so long to get rid of Chris algeri whereas a fmj or rjj would ko him in 2 rounds. This is ok because they are clearly new to the sport.
My issue is with all you hardcore fans that should know better. Try to think logically and carefully about your posts!!!

Re: Boxing fans
The only thing worse than the ridiculous posters with crazy opinions are the ones that think they are smarter than everyone and piss on the site's chatter but log on every single day anyway. Go screw. Whether you're a fan one day or 40, everyone has a right to share their thoughts on here. Who the hell are you?
Re: Boxing fans
Most forums I've been on are rarely balanced and I've said it before but people are generally extremists and exaggerate too much. Often the boxers are neither as good or as bad as it's made on here. Youve listed a post where somebody has said spence isn't the real deal as he took long with algieri and Floyd would stop him in 2, but then there's another post that says spence is the real deal win or lose to brook. Neither are these are true imo
General theme for this board in my humble opinion
Spence is backed heavy and hyped a lot
Golovkin is marmite
Ward is marmite
Fury is overrated
Loma is overrated
Reality for me:
Spence is unproven prospect, but could yet justify the hype
Golovkin and ward are p4p material. If they win there big upcoming fights we'll it really enhances their position
Fury has a great win in a poor fight, and has then wasted his career opportunity
Loma is quality but short of the "better than Pacquaio and mayweather" etc claims

I'm glad you asked, I'm of average intelligence (well in the normal world) and someone who loves boxing. I'm someone that won't just abandon a site but will endeavour to help improve the not so thoughtful posters. ;)caldo2025 wrote:The only thing worse than the ridiculous posters with crazy opinions are the ones that think they are smarter than everyone and piss on the site's chatter but log on every single day anyway. Just "sharing my thoughts" cowboy
I would never judge someone on their posts...yours by the way a 4 out of 10

So nice to read something on here open and truthful and not blinded by biased and emotional opinionsOssyrules wrote:Most forums I've been on are rarely balanced and I've said it before but people are generally extremists and exaggerate too much. I also have an impression that boxing fans are on average more dumb then even lets say football fans. One thing that compounds this is that there are many logical lapses that are established as boxing cliches that everyone love repeating. Speaking of Spence one that comes to mind is saying that Lacy loosing to Clazhaghe somehow means that Spence will loose to Brook. Just because both are highly rated Americans. I also have heard people say Joshua will loose to Klitschko because Canelo lost to Maywhether. Ridiculous.

Re: Boxing fans
I remember that we did an IQ thread in the OT (where this one will probably end up).
The results where directly opposed to the evidence you have gathered.
Everyone had an IQ of about 140.

Its easy to find idiots and trolls in every forum. Instead of criticize why not contribute with some intelligent posts to help make it better?
Re: Boxing fans
Many casual fans prefer to use derogatory terms like “coward” and “duck” in reference to fighters they always enjoy "hating", because they feel that “their” version of the “truth” is not only much “more interesting” than reality, but it also supports their hateful narrative.
The same set of people also enjoy “hating” those that follow the sport closely, whilst also researching situations prior to formulating their opinion, as they're usually accused of “pretending” that they are “smarter than everyone.”
If you’re the sort of person like I am, who submits posts that are more than a few sentences in length, that are factually-correct and usually supported by evidence, then you are heavily criticised, because your words are not aligned with those Lemming-like masses that prefer to buy into the hype and conform to incorrect and derogatory mainstream opinions.
I believe that there’s good and bad in every human being. So if I criticise the actions of a popular fighter that I wholeheartedly support the vast majority of the time, I’m nearly always accused of being a “hater”, because I haven’t “defended their honour” at all cost and have also failed to regard them as the perfect “hero” that should be placed on a pedestal and praised for eternity.
A lot of people that frequent this forum possess extreme opinions that usually don't reflect the events that take place in the real-world, but it's something that you have to get used to, especially if you don't conform to mainstream opinion.

Re: Boxing fans
There are some cool knowledgeable people here who are up for intelligent discussion for sure.
There are also some complete retards who think they are above everyone else and don't even understand half the words they use or even understand what a discussion is. Just don't make the mistake I did and attempt to engage with them as there is nothing to be gained.

There is no point talking to the known idiots, best thing you can do is pretend they do not exist I think.Badhusker wrote:samdance wrote:Are boxing fans on average less intelligent than the rest of the worlds population?

Re: Boxing fans
The funny thing is, the posters with the more, shall we say, pointed opinions make the posts that draw all of the responses. It's an internet forum, it seems in any forum, there are people who just want to argue from extreme positions, perhaps for their own enjoyment. That doesn't necessarily make them dumber than the rest of the population, incidentally.
A balanced discussion usually leads to things like agreement and a realization that all of the people involved in the discussion can't provide any answers with total certainty.....that doesn't seem to interest anybody.

To be fair, it was Brook himself who started that comparison.

Re: Boxing fans
Your main question samdance should be another one. Why is humanity stupid? Why do some have 50 bill plus other 0. Why do those who have 0 than make children, when they they already struggle. Why does governmant invest billions for flying to mars which is totaly nonsense, because wtf are we one day going to do mars anyway, instead of using the billion for health care, the poor and the weak. Why do people listen to the music of rihanna?
These are questions you should ask instead of are boxing fans stupid because they talk to much about spence...
Bottum line most sport fans in general are stupid, they follow athletes and praise them as they would be more important than their parents. The athlezes themselves are a bunch of eneducated roided youngsters who would normaly work at a mcdonalds or do some other non academic retarded job. I mean everybody is atupid, you get it...

Re: Boxing fans
That's an interesting question and a difficult one to answer. Boxing fans include some of the most intelligent people I've encountered and some of near bovine stupidity, but I wouldn't care to speculate about ratios among fans of the noble art, never mind relative to fans of other sports.
It can be frustrating. Even on here there are those with extreme views for whom certain fighters or other boxing personalities, can do no wrong or do no right. Some of these individuals seem depressingly immune to logic and rational argument, but whether this is indicative of low intelligence or not ... my experience suggests not necessarily.
I actually find it quite uplifting that this sport I love has broad appeal that spans the entire spectrum, rather than being exclusive to the very smart or the very dull-witted or to any particular social grouping or demographic.

I'm confident samdance that this was both deliberate and mischievous rather than your being oblivious to the contradiction here. That would just be too ironic coming from the man who raised the questionsamdance wrote:
