When I went to the barn 20 odd years ago to train, all they did was skipping and sparring. I never seen anyone do the pads and the bags were shite. They could all fight like fornicate but technique wasn't really a big deal. I reckon this is why Ricky doesn't score many knockouts, ecause he does have pop but sloppy technique. His hook to KO Mitchell was a belter for instance. When he digs it to the body it's a powerful punch but he's mostly jabbing and flurrying.

If GGG isn't a big middleweight puncher, who is?! I do think his power gets overstated by some and his KO record is from a combination of his timing, accuracy and power and his own strong chin which allows him to take risks.

You could make an argument that Wilder had only faced bums up until fighting Stiverne, and that his power was overrated. I don't think you can do that with GGG - he has faced several top 10 and top 5 fighters in his division, many of whom are durable, some had never been stopped before.

GGG just blows a million hits, but never, or barely ever a real one hit KO.
Even in comparation I think Povetkin has a harder punch for example, despite he doesn't have a real high KO rating, but if you see Povetkin hitting someone good then the guy won't be able to stand up for a minit (Duhaupas, Takam, Perez).

Of course Povetkin has a harder punch - he's a heavyweight! In a p4p sense, GGG is a very big puncher, his power is probably about average (or a little above) for a light heavyweight, but he fights at middle. Also, please see GGG vs Ishida (never stopped before, out cold against GGG from one punch), Macklin (had never been stopped early before) and Rubio.

Absolutely! ... Off-topic I know but also one of the funniest guys ever to lace on gloves. There are quite a number of great quotes and anecdotes attributed to him, I could give you twenty of his quips but I'll just leave you with one: When asked about his impervious chin he surprised the audience by admitting he had actually been knocked out, just once ... by a Mexican bantamweight - shock, horror ... and then the punch line "it wasn't in the ring it was in a bar ... and several of his amigos were swinging him around by his ankles at the time"

Back on topic Jeff Merritt, whose nickname I took for my user name, was a tremendous one punch hitter who broke stablemate Earnie Shaver's jaw in sparring while Earnie was preparing for a big fight. He also finished Ernie Terrell in one and Ron Stander who had little else but had a great chin in three rounds, when both were past their best.

On the other hand he was himself knocked out by Stan Ward who wasn't regarded as anything special as a puncher, and by Henry Clark who was distinctly average in that department too.

If Carl "The Truth" Williams had a chin I think he could've been fantastic. He was exciting, and charismatic. Absolutely loved the build up / interview to the Larry Holmes fight. It's just too bad he had nothing left after Weaver and Tyson were through with him

I don't think Williams had a particularly poor chin but he was lacking something at the very highest level - mental toughness, the warrior heart, physical endurance, definitely something but not easy to pin down.
