Great to see Lupe Pintor making it to the IBHOF. He was one of my favorites. An incredible action fighter. His fight against Gomez was epic. One of the best wars I've ever seen.
Camacho and Zapata were also deserving in my opinion.

Lupe Pintor and Hilario Zapata were long overdue, which I am glad they got elected to the IBHOF. Hector "Macho" Camacho got elected to the IBHOF in his first year of eligibility which is no brainer and not long overdue.

Been watching a lot of Pintor recently.
He was a model of gritty persistence, gradually walking down Albert Davila in the late stages of their remarkable 15-rounder, to gain revenge. Probably his defining win. He had to overcome great difficulty with the early lead, the exquisite timing and technique of the challenger, who landed flush on Pintor many times in combinations. Lupe really took it away from Davila in the gruelling late sessions, closing with conviction.
And, showing greatness in defeat obviously, in the all-time classic with Wilfredo Gomez, against a bigger, faster and more powerful man. To almost win by stoppage himself a couple of times, before the crunching barrage of left uppercuts and rights by Gomez that sealed the epic win.
Fights with Murata, Rengifo and Lee (apparently - this one one I'm going to see soon) also featured exciting, heated exchanges. But my favourite is the super bantamweight title winning effort vs Juan "Kid" Meza. The veteran Pintor, who'd had tremendous difficulty making the weight, just put it all together, landing enough power punches to seal a close win due to three knockdowns scored. Pintor was behind and under fire in this one, yet the timing of his left hook was wondrous and his hook-cross combo devastating. I'd seen Duran v Barkley before this and it was that kind of fight, the veteran causing just enough damage on a bigger, fresher fighter to land one last moment of glory.
Pintor is obviously known for the narrow win over Carlos Zarate, the well loved legend. Zarate I felt looked somewhat jaded and fed up late in their fight, in which Pintor did some very good work with the jab and came on strong. Pintor may or may not have done enough but he gave the impression of stamina and momentum, that he was ready to take over the title. I felt his draw with Murata was by far the more questionable result. It was a gruelling fight but Murata dropped in the harder shots and wouldn't let Pintor sustain his attacks. Appeared a pretty decisive win for Murata. Perhaps the difficulties Pintor had with Zarate and Murata in unpopular decisions are the reason it's taken longer for him to be acknowledged as a legend.
If Frankie Duarte had got his stuff together earlier (long before the Davila rematch and the Pinango battle) he would've made a highly attractive challenger for Pintor to stay at bantamweight.

Nice analysis of one of my all-time favorite fighters.
I loved Pintor's style and his second fight with Davila (another favorite of mine) was special.
The Pintor vs Davila fight was part of a prime time ABC Sports Special if I recall. I saw the fight at a friend's house and I recall it being an evening of live boxing. I also think they replies Ray Leonard's second fight with Duran that night.
