No huge fight is promoted in 6 to 8 weeks.
That's also a way of saying Wilder doesn't fight serious competition indeed. But they are still world title fights according to the WBC.
No one will argue that Wilders opposition is not up to par for a seasoned world champion
But that doesn't change the fact that you can't put together a multi million dollar fight like Wilder vs Klitschko
Or Wilder vs Joshuua in less than 8 weeks.
It's not possible
Lennox Lewis vs Vitali Klitschko was also done in no time, so I don't see much reason why this fight can't.

There was a fight already planned, Vitali came in as a late replacement and it wasn't a big fight.

The WBC have recently acknowledged the fact that external noise emitted from the crowd, TV commentators, music etc. can be highly-distracting. So they’re piloting the use of noise cancelling headphone to worn by Judges whilst they score fights.

Therefore, my comments about partisan crowds unduly influencing the judges’ scoring of evenly-contested rounds is something that is acknowledged to be a genuine problem, hence the WBC’s use of noise cancelling headphones.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t affect the Joshua-Klitschko rematch, because the WBC belt isn’t up for grabs.
Without drawing you into an argument, your point is valid. IMO, I believe this is (in part) an excuse for incompetent and/or nefarious decisions.
They need to do more than that. They also need to be watching the fights on TV and preferably in the back away from the distractions of a fight in the crowd or a hot woman walking by.

So? Wilder could have chosen Ortiz as a replacement, but he chose some fat out of shape junkie who could be a lightweight if he was in shape, what part do you not understand?

What does that have to do with how long it takes to put together a big fight?

I love it how everyone just assumes Ortiz would jump at the chance to fight Wilder for 100K or so. Not in a million years would he risk his '0' for comparative peanuts.

I wouldn't hold your breath on that fool ever quitting. He thinks Povetkin has never taken a medication, drink, smoke, premarital sex, ran a red light or jaywalked. Meanwhile Wilder spends all of his free time punting bunnies, pushing over paraplegics wheelchairs, pulling children's hair and spitting on blind people.

Ofcourse he would lol, and he isn't the only one, Briggs would have done it for free.

That is a really interesting point I think: A fighter rightly expects to get paid the going rate for the job, but if he really wants that job, he may well be amenable to the idea of accepting less. How much less will depend on many factors, but ignoring those outside the boxer's control, I would say there are two main factors, desperation and self-confidence.

I think Ortiz scores very highly on both: he knows he isn't getting any younger, and soon he will be losing his powers, if it hasn't started already (The fights against Scott and Allen suggest it has, unless Ortiz is trying to give that impression in order to appear less intimidating) and all the belt holders are looking anywhere but at him. He just can't get served at the bar.

That's where the desperation comes in, and Ortiz has never had any doubts about his quality, so he might well be prepared to take peanuts with the supreme belief that having easily relieved the pretender of his title, the rich pickings will surely follow.

Obviously I can't know Senor Ortiz' thought processes but it would make sense wouldn't it?
