Yarde had a bit of a problem with the scales as well. Had to disrobe. Even said, he's got 3 sets and he was bang on the weight.
Re: Gervonta Davis (c) vs. Liam Walsh - May 20th 2017
Money IS the measure of significance is boxing, like it or not. If he wins by impressive KO tomorrow night, GTank is a significant player at SFeather for those looking to make $$$. He will have FMJ behind him and the other SFeathers will be lining up for a payday and the exposure he brings. He will most certainly be on Frampton's and Lomassiah's radar, although he will likely fight a Valdez or Diaz in Vegas where the FMJ machine cranks full bore.Taansend wrote:That still doesn't make him a significant player.....yetTanzio wrote:With FMJ behind him he becomes the most bankable SFeather on the planet not named Lomassiah, no matter his rank.Taansend wrote:
I wouldn't go that far, Tanzio, but it does mean he's taken another step in that direction.
You could still argue that he's not even top three in his own division. He's a few fights away from 'significant player' but, based wholly on the Pedroza fight, it does look like he has the skill, style, punch & background story to get there.
. . . if he makes weight that is.. . .
made it by that much.
GTank becomes a significant player with an impressive outing tomorrow night. Not a superstar yet, but significant.

I just think it's the general consensus that Davis is going to walk through Walsh which I don't think is based on much.Tanzio wrote:Who is grossly over rating Davis? Nobody knows enough about him to over rate him.Naandrew wrote:I do think people are grossly over rating Davis though.
He has one decent win against a very paper champion in Pedraza. He may become decent but let's wait and see.
This is as big a test for him I think.
People are giving him credit for crossing the pond to take the next big step at this point. This is a far bigger task than Pedraza. Walsh has good size, skills, gifts, and he has a different style. On top of that GTank must cope with the partisan crowd, and all that may entail. He cannot afford to let this go to the cards.
GTank deserves credit for taking this challenge. If he passes this test, with FMJ behind him, the young man becomes a significant player.
You are right about giving him credit for travelling here defending though especially as a young fighter. I should be giving him more credit for that actually. The way judges have been towards international fighters really Floyd could have easily torn into boxing over here and it would have been justified.

Are the really people thinking Davis will walk over him. I'm not sure that's the consensus but a Davis win is. Walsh will have his moments might even get a few votes that he might have won the fightI actually don't see anyway Walsh wins. I think a close decision will go to Davis or a Draw.Naandrew wrote:I just think it's the general consensus that Davis is going to walk through Walsh which I don't think is based on much.Tanzio wrote:Who is grossly over rating Davis? Goes both ways as far as judges go.Naandrew wrote:I just think it's the general consensus that Davis is going to walk through Walsh which I don't think is based on much.Tanzio wrote:Who is grossly over rating Davis? I don't know enough about either fighter to predict the outcome. I just think that it is great that a fight like this is happening. It cannot do anything but positive things for boxing, no matter who prevails.
To me, Davis seems like a smaller version of Felix Diaz with much greater pop. Defense does not seem to be a large priority for him.

No one in America has heard of Walsh. Davis will be in no better position in U.S. boxing after this fight than before (if he wins).world ranked wrote:Similar argument like elite and world class isTaansend wrote:I guess our views on what a significant player is differTanzio wrote: Money IS the measure of significance is boxing, like it or not. If Davis beats a known top 130 fighter he could become a significant player but this fight won't put him there.
Re: Gervonta Davis (c) vs. Liam Walsh - May 20th 2017
However, after tonight, GTank will be quite well known in the UK if he puts on a good show. That is the strategy. Plus, plenty of Americans will be watching him take on an undefeated fighter in the UK.Taansend wrote:No one in America has heard of Walsh. GTank becomes a significant player in less than 24 hours if he wins. After that the options are many from feathers moving up to consolidating SFeather to moving up after Linares and more.

Round-By-Round - Gervonta Davis (c) vs. Liam Walsh - May 20th 2017
Undercard not being shown on B0xNati0n again for some reason.
Daft really, they own a boxing channel and have live, free content to put on and don't. Cameras are there already for the Main Card so can't be that much more work I wouldn't of thought.
Anybody there live?
Main Card starts at 7.30pm on both BT Sports and B0xNati0n...

However regarding tonight, if the early undercard is not on BT as well, BT subscribers might or could get the hump
