Kosei Tanaka vs. Angel Acosta

Round 1

Exchanging jabs. Acosta's faster, Tanaka's more powerful.

Acosta bouncing, moving well, making slight adjustments with footwork.

Acosta lands left hook. Hooks well off jab.

Tanaka lands left to body. Tanaka's the bigger fighter.

Acosta double hooks.

Finishes round with right hand upstairs.

Round 2

Tanaka's seconds tell him to focus on the body.

Acosta comes out firing, multiple left hooks.

Acosta's combinations stand out.

Acosta pressing.

Tanaka lands jabs to the body.

Acosta hooks off jab, and connects with lead right hand.

Tanaka lands right counter.

Acosta 2-0

Round 3

Acosta comes out winging left hooks, aggressive.

Tanaka slips a jab.

Acosta throws the dangerous lead right uppercut,
following with straight right, which lands.

Tanaka gets in some body shots.

Acosta throws speedy 1-2, then left hook.

Acosta moving very well out of harm's way as
Tanaka rallies with left to the body.

Round 4

Acosta lands with lead right upper, left hook.

Tanaka comes back with counter left hook.

Acosta using the left hand well with footwork,
controlling Tanaka. Tanaka comes back with
jab, right to body, left to body.

Acosta's hands dropping. He moves to his left.

Tanaka good pressure, left hook and jab to body.

Round 5

Acosta lands jab, Tanaka responds with a harder jab!

Both fire left hooks, Tanaka's lands hard to body.

Tanaka connects with right upper, right overhand
high on the head and Acosta is down!

Acosta rises, doesn't look hurt. Comes back aggressively
with multiple combos.

Tanaka hurts Acosta with left to body.

Acosta is busy with the jab.

Tanaka lands right to body

Acosta 1-2 combinations, Tanaka back with Left to body.

Acosta busy left jab, double left hooks.

Tanaka lands left hook, right hand.

Acosta displaying a constant jab.

Tanaka applies pressure, lands left hook upstairs,
then hard right to body.

Acosta is wary of body shots.

Tanaka firing hard!

Exchanging jabs.

Tanaka lands left to body.

Acosta moving to his left.

Tanaka counter left rocks Acosta.

Acosta fires back with fierce combinations.

Tanaka lands long counter right.

Acosta fires back with combos.

Tanaka lands sharp left body shot.

Acosta grits his teeth, fires back.

Tanaka again lands the left to the body.

Acosta comes back with counter right to head.

Round 8

Acosta comes out looking refreshed, sharper with
left jab. Steps up the pace. Firing his trademark
multiple left hooks. Tanaka gets in a sharp
right counter.

Acosta now slowed. Missing with arm punches.

Acosta brings it closer and has more success
at middle-distance. Just as it looks like Tanaka
is absorbing serious punishment, he comes back
with a hard left body shot.

Acosta wilts. Tanaka lands right cross..

Acosta soaking up blows.

Tanaka landing stiff jabs, Acosta missing with his.

Tanaka lands left to body, then head.

Acosta responds with multiple uppercuts,
Tanaka lands counter to body.

Tanaka lands three lefts to body in succession,
clubbing shots!

Acosta comes back with his own series of left-right
uppercuts.

Tanaka clearly has the edge in power, precision and
timing on the counters, but Acosta will not give up.

Round 10

Acosta comes out aggressively behind jab and
double left hook.

Tanaka comes back with jab to the body, then lands
a long stiff jab upstairs.

The two clash heads.

Tanaka blinks a lot (throughout the fight).
Is this just his habit?

Tanaka nails the left to the body again.

Acosta comes back with combinations.

Tanaka lands left hook to head, then back to the
body. Does it again.

Acosta fires his own double left hook to the body
and head.

Tanaka finished with a combination.

Round 11

Tanaka jabs to the body.

Acosta fires back with lefts to the body and head.

Tanaka counters with left to the body.

Acosta lands a series of blistering left and right
hooks to Tanaka's head. Tanaka lands a single
left to the body and Acosta comes right back
with his sharp flurries, bending Tanaka over
at the waist.

Acosta pushes Tanaka back into the ropes
George Foreman style.

Tanaka comes right back with his searing
left to the body.

Round 12

Acosta looks tired and gloomy before the bell
to begin round 12.

Comes out with a nice right cross and his
sharp left jabs. Then lands a series of left-right hooks.

Tanaka thuds in a counter left to the body.

Tanaka poses at ring center, then launches
an explosive 1-2. He's taking control with some
feints. Then lands a nice wide lead left hook, 1-2,
and chopping right hand to the head.

Acosta comes back with his double left hook to the
body and head, then catches Tanaka with his best
punch of the fight: a sharp left hook jacking his
jaw for a strong finish to round 12.

116-112 Tanaka.

Tanaka wins 3-0.

Calls out WBA & IBF champs Ryoichi Taguchi and Akira Yaegashi.
