Will GGG be a PPV star/cash-cow if he defeats Canelo ?
And what route he'd take then ? Personally I think Golovkin would have more to earn if he rematches Canelo and not Jacobs. Chavez Jr, if he has a good win at 168 , it would be a good match for GGG at 168 lbs.
Re: Will GGG be a PPV star/cash-cow if he defeats Canelo ?
Yes the the general question
Route
160
- canelo rematch if first fight is entertaining and competitive. Or is disputed decision
- Jacobs rematch
- Eubank and Saunders
There's nothing else at the weight imo
168
- Any of the current champions are beatable for GGG. If Smith wins vs Dirrell, stylistically he might be the toughest match
- Chavez is not a boxing option whatsoever.

Not a hope in hell.apollo creed wrote:Will GGG be a PPV star/cash-cow if he defeats Canelo ?
He can improve his PPV numbers slightly, but he'll never be overly-popular in the US, because his command of the English language is not so good (he still needs a translator) and the Kazakh community in America is not so large.
He refuses to compete at any weight other than 160lbs, despite his long-term claims that he can fight and beat anyone from 154lbs to 175lbs.
Unfortunately for him, there talent pool in the middleweight division is rather shallow, so there aren't any marquee names for him to compete against (in order to build the GGG brand).
Finally, building a sizeable fan-base takes years and he's already 35 years of age, so it's too late for him to become a major PPV star.
He'll just have to retire satisfied that he was relatively well paid and also highly-respected by the hard-core boxing fraternity.
Re: Will GGG be a PPV star/cash-cow if he defeats Canelo ?
No, I'm a fan, but no. I think at this time you have to already have a fanbase. Golovkin doesn't bring many fans.
Re: Will GGG be a PPV star/cash-cow if he defeats Canelo ?
This doesn't matter at all. No one watches the SMW division. It's a desert. IIRC, Jack/DeGale did horrible numbers. Also, guys from 154 lbs. need to move it. It's not worth it for Golovkin to drain himself to fight guys that are even bigger than him anyways. Both Charlos are freaking huge. They'll easily weigh more than Golovkin on fight night if they move up.verlichte wrote:Not a hope in hell.apollo creed wrote:Will GGG be a PPV star/cash-cow if he defeats Canelo ?

I only agree with your last point. It'll maybe nudge his numbers some, but you won't see a huge growth. Golovkin has no personality, and his race just doesn't have big numbers here in America. Plus, his English doesn't matter at all. We saw that with Pacquiao. It's mainly the demographics.

I think Golovkin will have a bigger fanbase among the mexican boxing fans if he beats Canelo. Already they like him a lot.
Re: Will GGG be a PPV star/cash-cow if he defeats Canelo ?
He might be able to do 250k ppv buys rather than 150k buys or whatever the case may be, but he's never going to significantly increase the numbers imo.

Canelo and Joshua will still be the only two mega-stars in the sport.

He is a uninterresting person with poor english. Only thing exciting about him is his power...

Floyd was also an uninteresting person with poor English. Seriously, the English means nothing in being an attraction here. The biggest draws in the US are currently Canelo, Cotto, GGG & Pacquiao.Jip wrote:He is a uninterresting person with poor english. Only thing exciting about him is his power...

Re: Will GGG be a PPV star/cash-cow if he defeats Canelo ?
The media will not be encouraged to get behind him. So the answer is no. At least not in the US. He's destined to follow in Marvin Hagler's footsteps. Everyone respects Hagler now, but at the time he was never the darling of the media the way Leonard was.
You could not ask for a better champion than GGG but the US is only encouraged to love the chosen ones born or naturalized there. Such are the politics. Lomachenko has the same problem.
He's already a huge star elsewhere. You know, those countries that are not on the American continent.
As far as boxing aficionados go, he's the best thing since sliced bread. If he wants more money then he's doing the right thing by following the same strategy as the unpopular Mayweather.
When Ricky Hatton went to Las Vegas it was difficult to see the Mayweather fans. Once GGG has unified the division he could handpick (and hand-tie) popular opponents into fighting him.
And stop knocking people out, no opponent likes that. Certainly not the ones who can earn a safer top $$ elsewhere.

He'll be a bigger star than he is now. Not sure if he'll be a PPV cash cow, but he'd be worth more and more guys would be willing to fight him. That's one of the sh*tty things about guys fighting so infrequently these days. They're almost past their prime before they ever really reach their peak of stardom.

You forgot Kovalev, and even though I hate him, Broner is a draw. Both dudes do huge ratings when they're on.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Floyd was also an uninteresting person with poor English. Yeah, he really won't have a chance because he's old. If he beat Canelo and started riding high on p4p lists, then he'd have a chance. Plus, if either him or Canelo hold on to the IBF, they're bound to lost to Serihy Derevyanchenko. Dude is an animal.gilgamesh wrote:He'll be a bigger star than he is now. Not near the guys I listed. Broner does nothing near huge ratings, neither does Sergei. Boza-Edwards used to do about 7 times more than either. I merely asked a rhetorical question, which is simply a figure of speech that is not intended to elicit an answer.Ruthless-RKO wrote:And you followed that with another question?verlichte wrote:I thought I answered your question?Ruthless-RKO wrote:

Re: Will GGG be a PPV star/cash-cow if he defeats Canelo ?
3G fans are not going to like this but probably the best scenario financially for Gennady is to lose a decision after obviously knocking GingerHead around and down for twelve rounds, forcing an even bigger rematch. A decision like Krusher v SOGgy will not be enough to be able to force a GingerHead rematch. It will have to be an authentic bad decision.
Re: Will GGG be a PPV star/cash-cow if he defeats Canelo ?
No, not on people's P4P lists that I actually take confidence in. He's only been in recently after everyone has been losing. Ring's ratings are laughable.gilgamesh wrote:He's been riding high on P4P lists for quite a while now already.Mexi-Box wrote:Yeah, he really won't have a chance because he's old. Uh, you included GGG, though. Kovalev was doing 1 million+ ratings just like GGG on HBO. Broner still does 800K on Showtime.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Not near the guys I listed. Canelo, Cotto, and Pacquiao for sure bring higher ratings, but GGG isn't in that league. If you include GGG, then you have to include Kovalev and Broner.
