Just this weekend, in the space of 2 days, we got:

- A german mafioso deciding to expand his shady business into boxing, and getting Afolabi to prostitute himself

- The gambling Yakuzas robbing blind their own olympic gold medallist

- The Dirrel thugs once again faking their way to victory, then nearly putting a fighter in hospital or under 2 feet by sucker punching him, in front of millions.

Aren't we experiencing a wonderful sporting era or what?

It has actually been one of the best weekends of boxing of the year.

- While my card disagreed with the official split decision for N'Dam, Murata has only himself to blame. He gave away too many rounds and he left far too many very close rounds to the judges. It was a close fight because Murata did not do enough, and N'Dam is a seasoned pro who kept himself in it. Murata was far from busy enough for this to be claimed to be a robbery.

- Uzcategui put himself in position to get DQed by getting warned for a very late power shot earlier in the fight as well as punching late in one other round before the eighth round DQ. It was a shame because Uzcategui was fighting well. I really like his style. The fight was decent and Uzcategui looked to be surging.

- We saw a number of really good young pros in action. GTank club Liam Walsh into submission impressively. Jorge Lara is back in action. David Benavidez had a coming out party, sending a clear message to the SMW division. Austin Dalay got a Mexican wake up call.

- Barthelemy v Relikh was a good, competitive, interesting fight that ended with poor cards. Relikh deserves a rematch that he will unlikely ever see. Barthelemy is a tough, awkward puzzle though. I would like to see Felix Diaz v either of these two.

- Hitman Jr absolutely put on a masterclass v Felix Diaz. It was not as competitive as I thought it could be. Diaz arguably could have gotten the decision v Peterson. Hitman Jr belongs at the top of the p4p list. And he basically called out anyone and everyone.

- TRex Jr was not as impressive v Escandon, imo. He dominated but he took far too many shots. He basically called out the entire feather and super feather divisions, including claiming that he will ktfo Lomassiah twice before he retires.

- fight of the weekend was Benavidez v Medina, imo. Benavidez appears to be something special at just 20 years old!!

. . . and stuck on the buttend of my recording of Benavidez v Medina I find a great little 6 rounder between undefeateds White and Lopez that was an absolute war between two big feather kids at 19 and 21. Really quality fight. White looked good in round one then Lopez took over in a real war but White showed real toughness in staying in there.

Boxing is alive and getting very healthy. Great weekend of a great year so far. Rumors of the death of PBC are premature.

Crawford isn't #1. I put him above Lomachenko because his win last win was very good, and he arguably has a better resume than Lomachenko right now. Still, Gonzalez, Kovalev, Ward are way ahead of Crawford. Lomachenko is on even terms and if he moves up and beats a credible opponent I'd put him back above Crawford.

I don't care about ANY of that.. That's noise I ignore.. Gary Russell is one of the best fighters in the world and finally got to ply his trade again.

Russell has been kicked down stairs because he would destroy Santa Cruz and Frampton.. And Terence Crawford is one of the best fighters in the world and he got to do what he does -- and also call out Pacquiao.. Thurman.. and Spence.. Obviously Pacquiao isn't going to fight ANY of those guys -- but fights between Spence, Brook, Crawford, and Thurman will eventually light up Boxing -- because those guys are willing to fight.. Then we got to see a new kid, Gervonta Davis destroy Liam Walsh -- so if you don't think that's a lot of happenings for a Sport or a global business for one night -- then you're batz.. Frankly, I've never seen Boxing with the global possibilities it has right now.. Another global sport like Boxing doesn't exist.

I mean... I follow Tennis... but since the days of John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors, and Bjorn Borg, there haven't been any personalities in Tennis. And Golf???? Since the days of Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, and Jack Nicklaus, Golf hasn't had any fascinating rivalries.. Everyone's an automaton these days. They're great athletes but nobody cares.. Boxing is the only individual sport left and there's a massive void out there to fill.
