If in the unlikely event of Brook killing himself to make the weight he'll be stopped around the 4th or 5th round and then the excuses will start.
Interesting comment that is, I hope you're wrong but I'm not completely taken in by Kell weighing less than 11 stone a couple of weeks out as its those last couple of pounds that are usually the hardest to shift. This is a great fight potentially and I really hope it's a classic and that weight issues are not being discussed afterwards.

is it really everyone's considered opinion that it is some kind of deliberate ploy not to make weight? Strange attitudes on here.

I don't think anyone suggested it was a deliberate ploy but if Brook was already tight at the weight then moving up to 160 and back down to 147 a few months later is bound to be a concern. Hopefully it won't be a problem but it'll be interesting to see how Kell looks in the days before the official weigh in

sharpei_louis wrote:Think you're a little harsh on Brook's career - I agree with the same frustrations that his natural talent is better than his resume, but I don't think it's down to Brook or even fast Eddie tbh. The GGG matchup wouldn't have been the huge moneyspinner you imagine without mass appeal, and I think to throw Brook in with him actually says more about how hard it has been for Brook to get the big fights. He didn't draw much of a crowd for a long time and was in the 'who needs him' club in my opinion. He reminds me of Carl Froch a little bit - I think he has massive kahunas and would fight anyone but wasn't the best draw. Froch's career would have been viewed very similarly before the Super 6 fights made the top players get together.
Hopefully with the GGG fight and now taking Spence (he could easily have used the weight issue to move up and fight Liam Smith for a big payday) the big fights will come for Brook. I can see why Spence is such a dangerous opponent, but his record has literally no one of note on it and Brook could be a big wake-up call for him.... I hope!!
Hmm.

Ok..... not completely down to Brook or Eddie, certainly Brook anyway!

And I just don't get that everyone is talking about Brook's weight but then he is a pariah if he ever mentions it!

The biggest concern is his legs. Fighting at a natural weight and then going back to a bigger cut can nuke them. Hearns legs were never the same after Andries. You have to love and respect brook for doing it, but I believe he'll regret it.

Poor Kell, and all those other lads who are just too big at the weight. Tonight he'll be sitting knackered sucking ice cubes and unable to sleep. He's a super welterweight for goodness sake. Money talks, and a non title fight at that weight would never attract PPV.
I wonder who in the Brook camp has the authority to say - that's it no more?

Surely its his teams fault, if that is the case. His manager is his dad so they know what they were doing.

Regarding 154. Surely Hearn could have brought over one of the 154 champions with the bout being held at a football stadium combined with PPV revenue?

Yeah. They're both 154 fighters really that fight at 147. The difference between the two is that it would seem that Spence manages his weight better and eats well even when he's out of training camps.

Brook's a real talent and so is Spence. I just think there are more question marks over Kell. Dropping in weight. The machete attack. The Golovkin mauling. I'm not sure he's physically 100%.

Spence is too hyped up not to be the next big thing. Of course I never like those sort of fighters.

Ended up fast-forwarding through the Crawford fight. Awful commentary that made me want to puke...

If Brook's on his game physically then Spence will have to be the fighter he's supposed to be to win.

He's younger and hasn't gone up to 160. That's the real difference, if there is one. We'll see in a few days.

Brook v Andrade or Charlo would struggle to fill a small hall and even Eddie Hearn doesn't have the brass neck to make that a PPV

Now Canelo's campaigning at 160, there's no real money at 154. Kell's management have taken a real gamble here but if it pays off and he wins he can earn big bucks for a fight with Thurman then hopefully cash out v Khan

True, the age aspect also factors into it. Brook does seem to blow up in weight outside of camp, a lot more than Spence does. The latter seems to be more of a "professional" year round.

Good build up in boxing monthly for this one, and a bit alarming to hear Kel say all his team wanted him to move up, as 147 apparently near impossible for him to make...seems his pride has got in the way and maybe a step too far here, as surely he ain't knocking this man out early ...but not sure how good Spence really is, not proven himself in the line of fire like Davis had done already in my eyes - Bundu and Algieri don't really cut it, and Kel is his first big test.

But think bookies have him as favourite, based on talent alone, which is probably about right - very interesting fight though. Brook certainly not shirking any challenges lately.

Brook has to finish this before the half way point in my opinion. Making that weight is surely going to see hum tiring in the later rounds, especially with the pressure that Spence is likely to put on him?

It was more the Brook-Gavin part of the card I was mocking in fairness lol.
