Re: Mike Perez returning at cruiserweight vs Tommy McCarthy
Looking in amazing physical condition , was sparring Joe Joyce last week and they put a few photos up on Instagram ! He looks like a Cuban amateur again rather than a Cuban pro ;)
Re: Mike Perez returning at cruiserweight vs Tommy McCarthy
Probably where he should've been
He was fighting at LHW (178 limit in the amateurs) as a 20-year-old and didn't exactly have a long frame to fill out.

Re: Mike Perez returning at cruiserweight vs Tommy McCarthy
Really looking forward to this fight, am I right to assume it's on the Haskins vs Burnett undercard? Good stuff if so.
Re: Mike Perez returning at cruiserweight vs Tommy McCarthy
Good luck to him. Was never the same after Mago.
Re: Mike Perez returning at cruiserweight vs Tommy McCarthy
Wish Perez all the best, he seemed to loose his edge after Magomed tragedy.
If he is back to his best it will be a good fight, but if he is still gun shy, it will end up being a few quid in his pocket and a decent name on Mcarthys record.

Didn't see this one coming. I liked the look of Perez when I first saw him. I thought him and Povetkin would've been a decent tussle but he ended up getting planted early bells. As someone said above, he never seemed the same after the fight with the big Russian.

Aye it's on that undercard mate. Perez is actually scheduled to fight this weekend in Dublin as well I'd noticed.TheGingerBomber wrote:Really looking forward to this fight, am I right to assume it's on the Haskins vs Burnett undercard? Good stuff if so.

Re: Mike Perez returning at cruiserweight vs Tommy McCarthy
Has there been many people who have cut this kind of weight and been successful?
Re: Mike Perez returning at cruiserweight vs Tommy McCarthy
The hope with Perez would be that he's presumably cutting a lot of unhelpful fat, rather than boiling himself down drastically.
I'm actually not convinced that the Mago fight was the turning point for him; his supposed downfall coincided with steps up in class, and he didn't appear gun-shy to me against Takam or Jennings. Stamina seemed more of a factor in those bouts, although perhaps the mental baggage of the Mago fight impaired his preparation and hence contributed to his lack of energy...

He's been out 2 years, thats enough time to do the weight properly, although he may have sat out his prime.
