There is no way on earth that Henry Cooper ever used the word "butt" unless he was referring to a barrel of water or a rifle.Kalan wrote:Cooper was an amazing guy... Though he was beaten 14 times and knocked out 8 times he just kept fighting... He was often accused of ducking George Chuvalo and admitted he had no intention of fighting Sonny Liston... "Liston? yeah, sounds like some more revisionistic fake news.gp. wrote:There is no way on earth that Henry Cooper ever used the word "butt" unless he was referring to a barrel of water or a rifle.Kalan wrote:Cooper was an amazing guy... All correct, Henry was never knocked out eight times. And I never heard him lapse into an American impersonating an Englishman.dalcumly wrote:Cooper was 'knocked out ' four times, a body shot from JOE Bygraves, and three right hooks from Johansson, Patterson and Folley. The other defeats were cut eyes and points decisions.
Henry's manager Jim Wicks DID say Cooper would never fight Liston implying he was too dangerous but I'm not convinced that was the real reason. I suspect that Wicks' was very aware of who backed Liston and wanted no part of them.
( see Henry Cooper: Cut Eyes and Left Hooks).
Henry was pretty straight laced but used regular jargon... He wasn't some pristine choir boy who never used the word butt or spit on the sidewalk.gp. wrote:There is no way on earth that Henry Cooper ever used the word "butt" unless he was referring to a barrel of water or a rifle.Kalan wrote:Cooper was an amazing guy... If you look at Coopers record he was beaten 14 times and knocked out 8 times... Knocked out is a term that originated with Boxing.. It doesn't mean knocked unconscious.. It means knocked out of the fight... Punches knocked you, cut you, or otherwise damaged you so that you couldn't continue.Flump wrote:All correct, Henry was never knocked out eight times. Too ugly the Bishop's usual phrase was wasn't it. Just as well whatever the reason, it would have been painful for Henry. As for Chuvalo it would have taken a faultless display of boxing over 15 rounds, but he was capable of it.

Right. So, for example, Lennox Lewis knocked out Vitali Klitschko, by your way of thinking?Kalan wrote:If you look at Coopers record he was beaten 14 times and knocked out 8 times... Henry Cooper admits in his 1971 autobiography that he wanted no part of Liston, that Liston was all wrong for him. How can you not know this, when you wrote a book about Cooper!?dalcumly wrote:Cooper was 'knocked out ' four times, a body shot from JOE Bygraves, and three right hooks from Johansson, Patterson and Folley. Note how Boxbuzz's Kalan invention makes up quotes exactly as Il Duce did. They're all Buzz, sadly. A tragic man with an enormous amount of time on his hands.Kalan wrote:Henry was pretty straight laced but used regular jargon... So if we look at Klitschko's record, (and after all looking at fighters records on boxrec is where all of your knowledge comes from) we'll see that Vitali Klitschko was, by your own words, knocked out by Lennox Lewis. Thanks for coming.Kalan wrote:If cuts are caused by foul blows...the first 2 rights Lewis threw in the 3rd were the foul blows that did all the damage...the fight goes to the scorecards.
Klitschko wins Unanimous Technical Decision 6... is the way it would have been decided if a partisan referee wasn't involved.
The official record is where you get all your knowledge from... Which means you have no knowledge at all... In that case you believe Bradley beat Pacquiao and Holyfield drew with Lewis... Shows how weak your brain is... Thank you for not commenting further because you're not a person who thinks.Flump wrote:So if we look at Klitschko's record, (and after all looking at fighters records on boxrec is where all of your knowledge comes from) we'll see that Vitali Klitschko was, by your own words, knocked out by Lennox Lewis. You know ordinarily in this situation I would draw your attention back to the inconsistencies in your logic, or even make you look stupid with some smartarse remark, but in your case, I'll just let you speak for yourself....Kalan wrote:The official record is where you get all your knowledge from... I remember the night an out of shape Lewis battered and knocked out a peak vitali. Byrd knocked him out too.Flump wrote:So if we look at Klitschko's record, (and after all looking at fighters records on boxrec is where all of your knowledge comes from) we'll see that Vitali Klitschko was, by your own words, knocked out by Lennox Lewis. Kalan delivered Cooper, he's also a doctor.Tomasino wrote:Kalan wrote:Henry was pretty straight laced but used regular jargon... He wasn't some pristine choir boy who never used the word butt or spit on the sidewalk.gp. wrote:

Oh aye, Henry used 'regular language' all the time. He was known to frequent drive in movies, eat in 'diners' and always voted Democrat. It's a little known fact that he was born and bred in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was adopted by the British and given the name 'Our 'Enery' because we felt sorry for him being robbed of victory by the ruthless Angie 'glove splitter' Dundee.
