Re: Age 19 David Benavidez
He looked sooooooo much better against Medina than he did the other time I'd seen him fight (Douglin). Big and strong for the weight, with nice combination punching (that ending combo!) and nearly every shot in the book. His engine also seems pretty good...
One to watch for sure

Re: Age 19 David Benavidez
I know David is the younger brother of Jose Benavides, who had great amateur credentials. I havent been able to find anything on David's amateur achievements. He turned pro at about 16 so his experience was at junior level. Anyone know what David accomplished at that level?
Regardless of what he did in the ams I really think he's got a better pro future than Jose, who has not really developed as his handlers have hoped he would. When he turned pro in 2016, Arum was hyping Jose as fast-track to a world title, but he definitely hasnt delivered on that yet. David has only been pro since 2013 and IMO he's made more progress than Jose has.

Jose Benavidez is pretty awful considering all the hype he was getting. David is definitely the better of the two. I also did not know they were related. Jose hasn't fought this year and only fought once last year IIRC.Best Coast wrote:I know David is the younger brother of Jose Benavides, who had great amateur credentials. At only 19 he seems to have a lot of potential, and the Molina fight was a lot of fun to watch. I look forward to seeing more of him.
