Brook weighs in at 156.9lbs

Always felt this IBF next morning weigh in was a bit unnecessary, what have you lads made of the weight and any indication on Spence ?

This is why I think Kell will win. I feel there's a few more pounds (maybe 2-5) to be added in the next few hours. He looked ripped, but also without an ounce of water in him at the weigh in.

Spence pretty similar, but I don't think (could well be wrong, wouldn't be the first time) that he carries as much weight naturally so won't balloon. I don't know his morning weigh in, that's just a supposing and entirely guesswork.

Is there a limit on how much they're allowed to put lm before the next day weigh in?

So, this morning Brook is a middleweight and rising. Come fight time he'll not be a welterweight -fact.
The day before weigh ins were introduced as a safety measure to allow boxers to re-hydrate properly particularly around the the extra-dural surrounding the brain. The exploitation of the current weigh-in rules has gone too far to the point that its dangerous.
I don't believe its the case with this fight because Spence will probably be piling the weight on also, but in other circumstances you could have had an opponent who was fighting at his natural weight. I remember Scott Harrison defending his world featherweight title entering the ring at 10 sts 10 lbs.

The governing bodies now have to take action. Weigh-in . in the ring, just before the fight starts. Can you imagine the outcry of managers and promoters who are now so used to exploiting the rules to gain advantage.

10lbs before 10am on fight day for IBF. I think. Then after that go nuts and put on what you want. I don't think (perhaps someone can clarify?) any other governing bodies have morning weigh ins.

I don't think stamina has ever been a problem for Brook but in that GGG fight carrying that extra weight used more energy hopefully comes in 163ish

Sports science and nutrition is so far ahead of any weigh in procedure it's very difficult to legislate without loads of fights getting cancelled.
You can get big fighters in small bodies these days.

I fancy spence to win and their weights this morning have boosted my opinion. Brook has put on just shy of 10lb so I think their job was only half completed at yesterday weigh in and the other half was completed this morning. I like Brook and want him to win I just hope making the welterweight limit hasn't left him depleted

I think the fact they can put on so much weight is crazy.. 10lbs should be the limit.. They should be made to weigh in at the time they are getting there wraps checked.. This would make boxing more fair and stop fighter coming in upto a stone heavier than their opponent.. We say we have the best safety for boxers in this country yet we allow a weigh in the day before sometimes 36 hours plus before the fight total madness.

But isn't the point that a stone difference in weight when the fight happens is safer than weighing in closer to the fight itself?

If Brook weighs around 166 tonight and Spence 159, for arguments sake, what is wrong with that? Especially when we see fights like Klitschko Chambers, Fury Cunningham and Valuev Haye. There is no real argument when it comes to genuinely massive differences at heavyweight.

The heavier you are the less difference it makes at this weigh 7lbs is a big advantage.. Let's be honest it's cheating.. Heavyweight is a open weight so really that's down to the fighters maybe should be a heavyweight and a Super Heavy..I think Spence will be around 163lbs and Brook 166lbs so only a few pounds and won't make a big difference in this fight.. To make boxing more safe why not introduce 10lbs maximum weight increase and weighed in 1 hour before your fight.. Will make boxing safer as people will need to move up in weight rather than the risky cutting of weight... 10lbs is more than enough to rehydrate you and will make boxing fairer

At the lighter weights half a stone is a huge difference. You just need to hold the pads for someone say at 10 stones and then move onto someone at 10 sts 7 lbs. The difference in power can be quite noticeable.
We've got to remember why we have weight categories in the first place. If nobody seems to mind anymore about how much extra a fighter weighs when he enters the ring, and the 'belts' being fought for don't actually mean much, then just have fights.
I can't think of any other mainstream sport where rules are regularly flouted. We've already discussed weights but what about drug cheats being allowed to fight again, back handers to officials to have boxers listed as contenders, and fights taking place when the opponent has no chance of winning. Not to mention fighters taking a dive, and others pulling out of contests with non existent injuries. The list goes on.

Sorry Mate. Strongly disagree. The amount of deaths & brain injuries has plummeted since the day before weigh in was brought in.

I get your point about fighters putting on weight but when a fighter loses weight, a lot of weight, the fluid around the brain gets drained. This means that even the slightest punch can result in the brain rattling off the skull causing all sorts of damage & often death.

I remember when deaths & serious injury was a lot more common. We don't need to return to those days.

Having 24 hours to replenish is a safety issue & more important than worrying about a fighter putting on a few pounds.

Looks like brook has managed his weight perfectly, it won't be down to his preparation if he loses, I've got brook losing this but it looks like he's given himself every chance of pulling this off, good luck to him

bloody hell. if the weigh in was the afternoon of the fight Kell would still be a LM come the first bell. its called rehydration.

I would love to know what all fighters weighed come fight night, for example weigh them in an roughly an hour before there fight, just out of Interest I suppose. I know some fighters put loads of weight on after weigh in eg: brook, canelo etc, then some fighters simply don't put that much on, I know of a British title fight that took place last year were there was 18 pounds difference in the weight between the 2 fighters come fight night that's basically 2 and a half divisions difference, that's crazy weight, and straight away imo equals an unfair fight and I bet it happens regular, but in the current rules of boxing it's 100 percent fair.

Was the rule brought in after Arturo Gatti almost killed Joey Gamache or have I imagined that? Gatti was something like 20 lbs heavier as I recall and Gamache had his head swung around like a rag doll.

Its ironic in such a brutal sport that the weight-making can be as dangerous as getting punched in the head repeatedly for 12 rounds!

Can't remember when the weigh in rules were changed but in my younger days would go to the weigh ins on the day of the fights - around 1.00 pm-ish and maybe 5 or 10 mins walk from work (quicker running back!). A mate's father in law was a British champ around the same era and was as fit as the proverbial butcher's dog in retirement. Must have been one of the lucky ones I guess - he was in the odd gruelling 15 rounder too. So I cannot really get it out my poor old bonce that the IBF welterweight limit is 11st 3lbs.

You should have to be tested for dehydrtion when you weigh in. Just ban dehydration.
