There is no doubt that Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin is the fight fans have been wanting to see for a few years. They are two of the top boxers in the world, and a meeting between them should produce an incredible fight. And Oscar De La Hoya is banking on that.
De La Hoya, whose Golden Boy Promotions backs Canelo, says he thinks the September fight between the two top boxers will generate close to three million pay-per-view buys.
“With the heavyweight division being back with Anthony Joshua, you know with the Keith Thurman fight that was viewed by what, more that 5 million people on prime time TV, with Canelo-Chavez selling over a million homes — we’re expecting close to 3 million with Golovkin and Canelo in September,” De La Hoya said in an interview with Fight Hub TV. “These are the types of fights that bring boxing back, and that’s exactly my mission – is to bring boxing back, bring back that excitement that people used to live for when watching boxing.”

Well, Canelo/Jr did over a mil. I'd say this does between 1.5 - 2 million. Possibly a little more, but probably not.

It could easily make 3.
There are 3 mayor problem:
1) floyd fu%;:#d ppv up very badly. The damage he did with his arrogant pus:;#y atitude, letting fans wait 6 years for a mega fight and than showcasing nothing but boringnes hurt ppv very bad for the future.
2) canelo to stupid to learn english, which compared to japanese or russian is a prety easy language to learn.
3) GGG learned a bit of english but its poor.

Oscar is dreaming if he thinks this does 3 million PPVs. My guess is 1.5-2 million, which is very good!!

GGG still isn't as big as name as Miguel Cotto was when he fought Canelo and that fight did 900k buys. Canelo is a slightly bigger name now than then, but I'd honestly be surprised if it does much more than one million buys.
Re: Oscar De La Hoya thinks Canelo-GGG will do 3 million PPV buys
They have all summer to build up the fight. It will be interesting to see how fast the live gate tickets sell. Most certainly it should sell out. Plus the demand on the after market for tickets to see the event live.
Re: Oscar De La Hoya thinks Canelo-GGG will do 3 million PPV buys
He's clueless. Golden boy promotions have gone down the shitter since Schaefer was pushed out.
My prediction- about 1.1 to 1.4 million ppv buys. Could end up even less than that, around about 1 million.

Oscar is half retarded and half insane.
No where near 3 million.
2 million would be incredible. But realistically 1.5 million which should be considered a big success.
Oscar keeps throwing these insane predictions out there and not coming close to any of them.
No way in hell will this do close to 3 million
