Chudinov vs. Groves

Post by Enlightened-One »

George Groves looks massive compared to his opponent. And we know that Barry McGuigan says that his charge will enter the ring weighing 185lbs.

It's a case of Groves' jab and size versus Chudinov's relentless aggression and power.

20-18 to Chudinov. The Russian is overcrowding the Brit with relentless pressure, to the point that Groves' is unable to use his skills and excellent jab.

I'd love to see Fedor Chudinov versus Chris Eubank Jr. We could see a figure approaching 1,000 punches each thrown in that fight if it goes the distance.

The third round is difficult to score, but perhaps the Brit stole that one.

29-28 Chudinov

Chudinov drops the pace and loses the round.

Groves looks desperate and I'm not sure if he can cope with the pace if it goes to the second half of the fight.

38-38 even

Another Groves round 2 all. But how much is Groves expending? Will he fade?

48-47 Groves

The Brit may have won the round, but Groves looks physically worse than the Russian does.

Maybe he has the harder punches so far. I'm hoping he fades...as I'm going for Chud.

What a shocking win!

I'm really pleased for Groves, but I was shocked at how defensively irresponsible the Russian became.

Chudinov gave the ref no option but to stop the fight, because he wasn't "protecting himself at all times".

It was a great stoppage. Did you want to see him take anymore? Even Chudinov nodding his agreement.

I thought he could take more but saw the replay and the nod. I was passionate. Would you like me to write you an apology?

Was it about 80 seconds between Chudinov throwing a punch and the stoppage?

When George Groves lost the first fight to Carl Froch, the referee stopped the fight after the challenger endured 33 seconds of relentless punishment from the champion, whilst being defensively irresponsible and also failing to land his own shots.

Fedor Chudinov was on the receiving end of George Groves' relentless onslaught for 43 seconds without being defensively responsible or returning fire.

In my mind, a referee will always consider stopping a fighter if they are neither returning fire nor "protecting themselves at all times" for a prolonged period of time, regardless as to whether the boxer in question doesn't appear to be deeply distressed.

It is the responsibility of the fighters to not place the referee in such a difficult position.

Great stoppage and great win for Groves. I was leaning towards Groves, but it was ultimately 50-50. It was Chudinov's reletneless pressure vs. Groves' heavy punches. I did think Groves would only win by stoppage, but he was certainly pulling away from Chudinov.

Groves is back on top again, and I think Groves/DeGale is 50-50 favoring Groves here again.

Also, Chudinov must be one of the strongest dudes in boxing. Groves looked absolutely GIGANTIC in there, and Chudinov was pushing him around easy.

Groves is a classy fighter. What ever you think about the Froch Groves saga he thought an absolute great at world level in Froch and outboxed him totally in the first.

Always been a fan and very happy for him.

Anyone who thinks that stoppage was not right doesn't know shit.

It was way worse then the groves froch first fight stoppage, groves was actually moving, trying to throw punches and was only hit a few times and the big difference was he had won every round up until that point and already knocked down Froch it.

Chudinov admit didn't look that hurt but he just stopped defending himself and wasn't even trying to throw punches. He looked totally punch drunk to me and was only standing on account of being too tough for his own good.

If he was smart he would have took a knee. But he was too fu cked to even think of anything smart like that. Perfect stoppage.

Ive no problem with that stoppage last night. Groves has already permanently injured a guy who was too tough for his own good and I'm sure none of us wanted to see the same thing happen again. Groves was landing massive shots at will and Cudinov couldn't answer back or even get his hands fully up for the last few.
