As the article alludes to, Cockell had been knocked out 5 times previously...

One of Cockell's previous KO losses was a 4-round battering and brutal stoppage by the feather-hitting Light Heavyweight Jimmy Slade -- who Floyd Patterson pounded in such a one-sided affair that it was almost ruled a no-contest... Another previous KO loss that Cockell suffered was to Middleweight Randy Turpin -- the same Middleweight who was famous for beating Sugar Ray Robinson.. Marciano did not look good against Cockell.

Marciano-Cockell was a slow and slogging affair -- a little like watching a pregnant elephant pull a load of pig iron through quicksand.

Don Cockell's next fight was a little better... Mostly because it was over a lot faster... Nino Valdes stopped him him in 3.

You read his record. Well done. Any Dick Van Dyke style quotes from Don?

Uh no... No Dyke quotes either ... although he could pass for one

It seems a different breed of men in those days -- not as big or strong and very rotund around the middle -- even at 205
