Putting The Boot In
Re: Putting The Boot In
Tony Bellew is a complete arse of a man. He's an utter booreatron, if he wasn't an athlete I'd think he was out his face on coke the way he can't wait for any pause in anyone else's pattern of speech before he interrupts to tell us exactly what he thinks. He dominates conversations with verbal dihirrea.
Brook did quit but I think he was perfectly justified in doing so. You only have one set of eyes. He clearly believed he was facing long term injury that could have left him blind- who his eye sight is more important than satisfying a bunch of boxing fans of whom 99% of them would shit themselves amd curl up in a ball and quit the first time they caught a decent punch.

Irrelevant. Fans are not fighters and do not proclaim to be. You could say that boxers do not even need to answer the first bell, they can turn around and walk out after the referee instructions rather than risk being punched to satisfy a bunch of boxing fans 99% of who would shit themselves and curl up in a ball etc. In fact, you could say that about literally anything about a boxer, silly commentSupremo wrote:a bunch of boxing fans of whom 99% of them would poo themselves amd curl up in a ball and quit the first time they caught a decent punch.

brook gets a lot of passes on this forum
He did quit .... If that had not been a forum favourite he would be torn to shreds
And I am sure it's the other eye from ggg fight

Also thought the trio were very poor after groves won. Very uncomplementary and almost shocked as groves fought so much on the back foot...... everyone knew beforehand he'd be under pressure very early from chudinov as he tried to walk him down.
Re: Putting The Boot In
Brook was beaten and he knew it. His corner should have pulled him. As a sensible person I applaud Brooks decision to take a knee, he was getting beat up in the tenth but gave it one last push, really went for it. In the 11th he was done, beaten, eye damaged and knew he couldn't do anything. I don't wanna see long term damage, we got to see a high level, quality fight. If your involved in coaching, especially with kids, what advice would you give? Fight till the death? No, health comes first.
I'm well satisfied as a fan and with the money I paid. I'd pay to watch Kell again, hope he comes back at light middle cos against the top guys he seems to struggle to last 12 rounds

It is the other eye and if it was Khan he would be slaughtered. Brook does get a pass off a lot though I'm not going to give a fighter grief for stopping like that, it's a dangerous sport. We love the Gatti type fighters but it can end so easily in disaster, another round of that could have ended his career.sweetscience wrote:brook gets a lot of passes on this forum

Re: Putting The Boot In
Golovkin fight - fractured eye socket and told that he was a good accurate punch away from having his eye ball fall into his skull
Spence fight - round 7 fractured eye socket. Not as bad as the golovkin fight. Fights on for 4 more rounds but his level is deteriorating. Any punches on that eye must be causing him big bother in terms of pain and vision. Gets pinged in the 11th causing double vision to set in and stay there. pawimg badly at his eye but takes a knee when spence comes forward. Gets up on 9 but doesn't appear to know which referee to walk towards, the real or the double vision. He's done
I don't know what brook said to the ref at this point but obviously it was a good stoppage from the ref. For some people to come on here and label him a quitter, no heart for the fight etc, it's so poor judgement, they're way off. The guy is digging way deep whilst trying to protect a career level injury and also one that could badly badly effect his life outside the ring. Get a grip guys. This isn't a no mas situation I've had enough
Can people just not credit spence on a great achievement and to brook for his part in a great fight and just hope the injury isn't bad?

He gets grief he's chin you but his heart has never been in question so he shouldn't get grief in that respect. Also when Amir has that injury 2 fights in a row let's see what his reaction is?

Re: Putting The Boot In
Can't blame Brook for what he did, he's knows his own self better than anyone else. Great fight back and forth action throughout Spence just to strong down the stretch. Khan is gonna say it's better getting Knocked out than quitting because he gets starched before quitting (not including the maidana fight). i like Bellew but he has got this opinion of himself that he is a warrior with no give in himself and I think that when Brook give in it went against Bellew beliefs and he said what he thought. I don't agree with his opinion but I prefer him being honest rather than just towing the line.
Re: Putting The Boot In
The 2 main events were good the rest of the show was terrible. And as for the minute silence it was a farce but entirely predictable.Bricks wrote:Every fighters face and propensity to injuries is,different
A chudinov gets hit with everything and the kitchen sink but his face doesnt bruise his expression doesnt change
Brook has a great chin and heart but his eyes r weak
Khans very harsh comments which were really just parroting bellews lead and nelsons insinuations.....are made more palatable by the fact khan is one of the bravest fighters who ever entered a ring...he has fought to unconsciousness with his weakness (chin) kell chose not to which after such a brave incredibly skilled display by kell is his full right....the fact is this was old school 80s top top world class level back to back fights ggg/spence...
Overall a great show and skys presentation goes from strength to strength.adam smiths commentary and lead has in the last succesion of big shows been perfect..great to watch well worth the 17 quid.well done eddie

His heart has never been in question, but the hatred of him on here is very apparent. If he had stopped a fight like that a lot of people on here would slaughter him, I don't doubt it for a second.Ossyrules wrote:Would Khan be slaughtered though?TheDarkDestroyer wrote:It is the other eye and if it was Khan he would be slaughtered. It's not irrelevant at all. If you've never done it and never been there then you're in no position to cast judgement on anyone who has. You have absolutely no understanding of what it is like and in which circumstances it is ok to quit and ok which situations it isn't?
Re: Putting The Boot In
It may be the point you are making and I've misread, but if the exact situation had happened to Khan, 2 fractured eye sockets etc, fought until the injury couldn't take more, then I'd be saying the exact same things about Khan today that I've been saying about brookTheDarkDestroyer wrote:His heart has never been in question, but the hatred of him on here is very apparent. I think we should spend more time in this thread giving Tony 'Indomitable Warrior With No Quit In Him' Bellew credit for his brave performance against Stevenson
Re: Putting The Boot In
That's my point, we just have a large anti-Khan brigade. I've been posting here for ten years and believe me it's a very large contingent and they aren't shy.Ossyrules wrote:It may be the point you are making and I've misread, but if the exact situation had happened to Khan, 2 fractured eye sockets etc, fought until the injury couldn't take more, then I'd be saying the exact same things about Khan today that I've been saying about brookTheDarkDestroyer wrote:His heart has never been in question, but the hatred of him on here is very apparent. How dare you. He just went to war with David Haye, took his best and stopped him. The man is a legend.Counter-puncher wrote:I think we should spend more time in this thread giving Tony 'Indomitable Warrior With No Quit In Him' Bellew credit for his brave performance against Stevenson

Much as I disagree with those criticising Brook, it's not true that 'if you've never done it, you can't comment'. Otherwise 99.9% of boxing discussion & writing has to be dismissed out of hand, which is obviously nonsense.Supremo wrote:tobyh5 wrote:Irrelevant. Fans are not fighters and do not proclaim to be. Re: Putting The Boot In
One thing is for sure, Tony Indomitable Warrior Bellew has certainly been there and done it, if anyone is qualified to pass judgement on a fighters heart, it's certainly Tony Never Quit Heart the Size of Liverpool Bellew
Re: Putting The Boot In
Looking forward to sewing Bellew's balloon burst, hopefully very soon.
I wonder if Brook would be best off retiring. I know it's at this stage of his career he makes his serious PPV money but sometimes quitting when ahead is sensible plan. Two fight in a row his eye socket has gone.

Re: Putting The Boot In
If you haven't done it then how on earth can you understand what goes through your mind when you've suffered a serious injury and are deciding whether to continue to fight on? That's not appraising boxing technique. That's trying to understand the internal mental process of a fighter. If you've not done it then you can't know what goes through a boxers mind. Just like I've never been in the army or a war situation so I wouldn't pass Ill informed comment on what I would or wouldn't do or what is reasonable in a war situation.Boxerbeetle wrote:Much as I disagree with those criticising Brook, it's not true that 'if you've never done it, you can't comment'. Re: Putting The Boot In
i agree with this. the problem for khan is brook doesn't get knocked out, he actually has a jaw that can take a punch.unfortunately his eye sockets appear to be his weak point. for those saying he should have fought on as others have fought through similar, i don't think it is possible to make that judgement unless you are the one being punched on the injury. every injury is different, depending how the bone breaks it could just go numb, no problem to fight through.sammy95 wrote:As per my comments on the RBR thread, I disagree with what Bellew and Khan said. One for how they said it, it didn't come across as punditry, it came across as 'I wouldn't have done it, so I'm better'. Secondly, Bellew quit against Stevenson. Thirdly, Khan said it is better to get knocked out, which is ridiculous and ironic (Maidana fight aside I will add).
However, losing your sight is surely one of the scariest disabilities, and that is where the line is crossed for me. If he quits because he can't hack body shots then shoot him down all you like, but the fear of losing your sight is up there (but not quite as high) with the fear of a brain injury in my opinion.
Brook has been in a great fight, I had him one down going into that round and its not the first time Brook has been in an edge of your seat fight.
it could also be jamming into a nerve end every time it gets hit. add in the inability to see punches coming and i am all for the individual making that call and possibly prolonging their career.

Re: Putting The Boot In
Say what you want about khan but there is not an ounce of quit in him. He's been hurt badly and never looked like he wanted out. Just look at how he got starched by Prescott and still tried to beat the count despite the fact that he was struggling to breathe on the canvas
