Putting The Boot In
Re: Putting The Boot In
Unfortunately for kell the bar is set quite high in terms of what we expect from top level fighters and anything less will never be accepted by the hard core fans, all the "don't wanna risk your eyesight" talk is a normal attitude to take for regular folk but world class professional boxers are not regular people which is why we watch them sometimes in awe at their willingness to win at all costs, so while an admirable performance from kell his heart wasn't quite big enough to complete the job

What disgusts me more than anything is Tony "I Would Die in the Ring" Bellew saying what he said on live TV. He has obviously taken one too many punches because his long term memory is shot to pieces, he clearly had forgotten the Adonis Fight where he DID BOTTLE IT so much so he tried to run away whilst turning his back on Adonis and if he had more faculties about him would have hid behind the referee if he could.
Some of the people who said Brook quit last night after a broken eye socket and going 11 rounds with a world class fighter
Will be the same people who will stand at a football match and applaud a player limping off with a twisted ankle.
Let that sink in for a moment!

Seems like the fight was knocked out of him, so no issue with what I have heard here of the analysis from Bellew & Khan.
Brook has a chin, thus the fight needs to be knocked out of him. Khan has no chin, so he gets knocked out of fights.
Boxers are entitled to withdraw with injuries. No one wants to wind up like Matthew Saad Muhammad in later life, magnificent warrior though he was.

David Haye will do for him if he gets back to 100% fitness.cmdenny wrote:Looking forward to sewing Bellew's balloon burst, hopefully very soon.

Agreed. Matchroom should downgrade Brook from PPV status.samwbr wrote:Only way he is on ppv now is fighting Khan.
Don't get me wrong, I commend him for taking the GGG fight but retirement is looking a viable option for him methinks.

Ive not seen the fight yet, im watching this evening, however, in principle id always rather see a fighter with a potentially career ending injury who is getting a beating quit when hes had enough.

Brook claims he was told by a doctor after the Golovkin injury that he might have been 1 punch away from being permanently blinded and that was running through his mind when the other eye went last night, totally understandable nobody would risk being blinded
Re: Putting The Boot In
The consensus isn't against me, it's against me by a a few vocal posters on here but the General consensus in the boxing community and from people who have actually fought is that he quit.Boxerbeetle wrote:You're an idiot and I'm glad the consensus is clearly against you.Finn wrote:Good thing Ali didn't have that attitude or who would have never transcended the sport.Boxerbeetle wrote:Very disappointing to read some of these comments. Brook fought his heart out and stopped with a serious injury when he felt he couldn't continue as he couldn't see and risked potentially permanent and life-changing damage. Who the fvck has any right to criticise him for that? Casuals and armchair warriors!
You watch a combat sport yet don't mind fighters quiting? If he feels he should stop that's fine, but now he is finished at the top level because once you quit in anything it just makes it easier to do it again.
Also Brook was harping on about how he felt the pull out in the GGG fight was early and he was "just getting in the groove" and thought he could go on to win. Well now we know that was a load on non sense since he is now claiming it's the same injury but from a smaller opponent yet decided he couldn't go on.

Can comment on boxing and what they see on a technical levels but Steve bounce and Adam smith and most folk that watch boxing have no right to question kell brook last night. They have no understanding what goes through your mind in a fight. You can't have unless you've done it. It is too unique an experience.Crease wrote:Now THAT is an unhelpful & unhealthy attitude. I guess that is Steve Bunce and other respected pundits out of work then.
Ans Shane McGuigan as well I suppose.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion but everyone doesn't have the right to have their opinion respected. I've no respect and pay no attention to anyone questioning the bravery of a fighter unless they've done it themselves.

No it's bollocks. I'd expect hard core boxing fans to appreciate the risks these fighters are taking just by entering the ring. Having more heart wouldn't have seen him get the job done, he was beaten. He showed heart in the tenth, many other brave warrior types would have been knocked out earlier but Kell is tough and had one last throw of the dice. More heart however could have seen him permanently damaged. But at least he'd be able to say he didn't quit, that's if he would be capable of speaking/thinking/functioning normally.Finn wrote:Pretty much bang onlittlepug wrote:Unfortunately for kell the bar is set quite high in terms of what we expect from top level fighters and anything less will never be accepted by the hard core fans, all the "don't wanna risk your eyesight" talk is a normal attitude to take for regular folk but world class professional boxers are not regular people which is why we watch them sometimes in awe at their willingness to win at all costs, so while an admirable performance from kell his heart wasn't quite big enough to complete the job
Imagine that, leaving his missus, family and himself permanently disabled because paying boxing fans only expect nothing less. Sport fans who moan about athletes that don't meet their expectations do my swede in. You pay to watch a contest, it's not a film with a script and Spence and Brook delivered. Unfortunately he was against a better opponent but us paying fans got what we paid for, a top level boxing fight between two top notch fighters.

Anyone and everyone are entitled to an opinion and some non fighters can read and analyse fights brilliantly. But I'm with you when you say no fighters questioning Brooks bravery after last night, especially given his previous fight with GGG lose credibility with their opinions.Supremo wrote:Can comment on boxing and what they see on a technical levels but Steve bounce and Adam smith and most folk that watch boxing have no right to question kell brook last night. I think that's why its more annoying when Bellew, Khan and other pros that have criticised Brook because they do know the risks, they have been there and they should appreciate that Brook was brave, that he could have got the doctor involved, given up in the tenth but realised he had no chance of seeing the final bell and took a knee. Brooks actions should be applauded

Okay, but I asked a different question and that was will these recurring eye socket injuries hamper Kell's future as a professional boxer - surely that is a credible & valid question.Supremo wrote:Steve bounce and Adam smith and most folk that watch boxing have no right to question kell brook last night.

I think that Kell really has to consider retirement.
Re: Putting The Boot In
He was second best from round 7, especially in 10. What could more heart achieve? The opponent was better, stronger and on top. Heart doesn't magic ability and strength that isn't there. He went sh1t or bust in 10 when it looked like he was about to be stopped. That was heart and it still wasn't enough. Simply, the other lad was too good and he was beatlittlepug wrote:More heart could've seen him win it, its about how much you want itNed Stark wrote:No it's bollocks. Exactly. Some of these comments are frankly pathetic. Wanting to see a man seriously injured just to show some 'heart'.
