Sam Eggington is the best welterweight in the UK...

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

According to BoxRec..

I believe Khan has more points, but due to inactivity, he has been dismissed from the list for time being.

It's understandable given the system.

In reality he is far behind Khan and Brook and still behind Skeete.

What happened to that guy who beat him in the Prizefighter? Looked like a nice little fighter that kid.

Dale Evans

Eggington beat him in a rematch under a matchroom production. Evans put him down early though

Brook would stop him id imagine

Eggington is nowhere near the level of Khan or Brook. Particularly Brook.

Yeah he's not anywhere near their level. I'd fancy Skeete to outbox him as well if they met again. He's great to watch though. I'm a fan. Hard to believe he's only 23! Still time for improvement but what you see is what you get with Eggington and I can't see that changing much. It's entertaining to watch for s fans but probably detrimental to the longevity of Sams career.

It's pretty strange how Eggington and Skeetes careers have gone since they met.

Not Evans the other guy Johnny Coyle. It seems he is still going undefeated but cant get KOs. I was impressed with his technique, but perhaps he doesn't have physicality to go with it.

I think Eggington was suppose to lose to Gavin and Hearn was surprised and even Paulie to a degree I think win over Frankie change the tone of his career.

I think people are being a little unfair to Sam, he's only 23 and has put together a nice string of wins.

Would you rather he'd just knocked out bums for the last 5 years? He'd probably get more credit for it.

Mental !!!!

Though the site has had some mad ones, Badou Jack was about 9th before the Degale fight.

Eggington is one of my favourite British fighters at the moment though.

Not being unfair. Just being honest about his abilities up to this point.

I agree, but Boxrex ratings systems is about beating someone who has good amount of points regardless of boxing ability. 235 points isn't a lot, but enough to generate a 5 star fight on boxrec. He first took a lot of points from Gavin, followed by a further 70 points after stopping Malignaggi. Both fights were inside the distance, and tbh not bad wins at all on paper.

It'd be nice for him to earn a bit of good cash to secure his future over the next few fights. He's only 23, but like Hatton, his style will see him peak early. You can't block punches with your face forever.

When you think about it, at 23, that resume is better than most at that age. How about getting Carlos Molina over for Sam?

On paper?
Very good wins by any method of evaluation.

When you look at the UK welterweights, we've not got much coming through!

Anyone name any of the future prospects?

Doesn't look great for us at that weight.

You're right.. not much coming through..

Singleton? Skeete? They have and always will be domestic, maybe challenge EBU.. nothing more..

Any super lightweights? Might consider moving up.

I think you'll probably see josh Taylor at that weight eventually based on his size vs Davies at the head to head

Davies himself may end up there too

Conor Benn though he has much to prove

Campbell may end up there he is quite big lightweight

Malinaggi had a top 10 world ranking on Boxrec at the time which gave Eggington a big jump in points.
