Seems like that was the majority view....he's been very highly regarded fir a while, even by people who hate on other fighters for not being proven relative to their hype. The victory today should help win over some of those who werent as confident about him....

He's a top-notch fighter for sure

If it wasn't the majority view, it wasnt far off.

People have been widely raving about him since he beat Algeiri. Spence was a solid favourite for the fight, and he was killing Brook in 'expert' polls; a poster here collected predictions, and out of nearly 60 only 8 were for Brook. Anecdotally, In the various forums I browse Spence was favoured in pretty much every relevant discussion thread.

It was not my intention, I am too old (52) for that. I have to say that too many posters claimed that Spence was green/untested/hype-job, etc...etc...

OK, I have not enough time to search for the posts/posters who claimed just the opposite. I am not an expert, I am a fan, simply, but there are not many genuine experts on this forum. They do not intend to waste their time, this is the forum for fans.
I do not consider my opening post as a strange one, I told the truth, and many posters has been laughing last year (lol, another American hype, and so on...)......

Many, many people have been calling Spence a future champion since before he turned pro. Many of us have been convinced of it for 3 years. In fact, much of the resistance you read was because it was a consensus that he was the 'truth'. I know I've been saying far longer than a year.

Yeah. Good job valmar! You really called it right. Did you know he was the most accomplished American boxer of his year in the Olympics as Well?

In other words, he was expected to become a champion.

Yes, he beat some good competition in the amateurs, including Sammy Vazquez, Imir Imam, and Julian Williams. Got his ass handed to him a couple of times too (point losses), but we all know but amateurs is nothing like the pros. The thing I like about it is the various styles they are exposed to, and experience traveling to different venues to fight.

Right now Spence is a good champion, and he will be the first to tell you that he has work to do in order to become great. He is not in the HOF yet. I do believe the saying that "Good is the enemy of Great", but it seems easy to predict it won't apply to Spence. The best is yet to come.

Anyway, I am happy because I could recognize his potential. Honestly, I did not know a lot about his amateur days.
So, we (boxing fans) have three really hot divisions - HW, CW and WW.
Let us enjoy !

I was right. He is not a hype-job, he is a genuine champion. :TU:
Prior to last night, neither Spence Jr. nor Brook had competed in a bout during 2017. In fact, both fighters had been inactive for roughly nine months.

Before Spence Jr's victory last night, only 15% of the 54 boxing experts polled thought that Kell Brook stood a chance at successfully defending his IBF world title.

A few days prior to last night's fight, the vast majority of the bookmakers listed by Oddschecker rated Errol Spence Jr. as being more than 70% certain to beat Kell Brook.

It also appeared that the majory of this forum favoured the American to emerge victorious from last night's fight.

Therefore, please remind me what you've done that deserves a proverbial pat of the back from the BoxRec forum community? :-?

I wanted to remind some posters ( who claimed that Spence is only a hype-job) that they were wrong. I predict the great rivalry - Spence vs Crawford (something like Mayweather - Pacquiao)....Usyk vs Joshua, too....If you want, you can remember this....

I agree with the first sentence.
FMJ has been speaking about Spence's great potential, but I don't consider this as hype.

Fair play to you saw. I respect guys who make a good opinion why these other fools cry about he hasn't beat anyone. Sometimes the eye test works for guys like Spence, Joshua

It's hype. Building up expectations that this prospect is the goods. Hype doesn't equal all talk no results, he was talked up as a prospect that will go on to do big things, and justified it vs brook
