Next for Kell Brook
Next for Kell Brook
I haven't heard anything about retirement and he seems keen to fight on.
Obviously he has a good bit of recovery time ahead, but surely he isn't going to have to worry about orbital bones in the future now that both will be made of titanium.
So what next?
I think he was tight at Welter, so I can't see any reason to stay there. No more waiting on Khan and Pacquiao won't happen.
Spence, Thurman and Crawford will all have an eye on each other.
So 154lb - WBC champ Jermell Charlo is winnable, IBF holderJarret Hurd too.
WBA super is Lara who I think he'll avoid but ordinary 'title' is with Andrade which is an exciting fight and I think Kell has the style to pick apart
WBO will be vacant with Canelo moving up and Cotto is top ranked for that.
I don't know where Kell would be ranked for any of these if he moved up.
Another option could be BJS. Kell might not be a big middleweight but he looked comfortable there, if he's not fighting a monster like GGG, I'd fancy him against BJS

Tbh, it should be Khan and done. If not he should continue at domestic level.
Re: Next for Kell Brook
Depends on the lifestyle he wants to lead ,, Khan for example with his lifestyle would need a lot of money and some sound investments .. Brook living in or around Sheffield , with a couple of holidays a year, to europe probably has enough money to see him through his life anyway .. But one more fight, against Khan is what i would push for ,, he'll probably win but if he loses he aint gonna get hurt . and its big money , probably not has big a payday has pre Spence , but big enough
Re: Next for Kell Brook
Khan prizefight. He has the ability to compete at world level clearly but the bones around the eye socket i think would need a long period of time to harden/fully heal.

Re: Next for Kell Brook
Why are people suggesting he retires? The guy is only 31 years old and not even close to having a full career cycle. Two injuries, one of which has healed and stood up to the fight on the weekend and now another one which will have the same thing probably.
What is with the modern hankering back to the old days and how old time fighters behaved and conducted their careers then we think a guy should retire because he has lost two straight fights?!
Its a UK thing as US fighters win and lose world titles, keep going, regain titles, move up divisions, collect more wins, add to legacies etc but over hear, lose a world title and we act like the career is finished. Very odd.

Re: Next for Kell Brook
I forgot Liam Smith. The Williams fight made him WBO interim champ, with Canelo stepping up.
That's winnable and Cotto is ranked 2, so there's an attractive payday.
Could be a route to consider when the eye heals
Edit - I'm talking pish, forgot he didn't make weight

Re: Next for Kell Brook
He should only retire if his eye doesn't heal properly.
I imagine he will continue at 154, he should be able to pick up a title at the new weight within 2 fights and then push for Khan fight.
If Khan is willing to step up for Canelo he should be willing to step up for Brook. If he doesn't then it will be completely Khans fault and Brook should look for the Cotto fight for a big payday

Re: Next for Kell Brook
Move to 154 and have a decent ten rounder to get used to the weight and get comfortable with the repaired eye sockets. He's been jumping around the divisions lately so needs to settle back in and rebuild his confidence before another world title fight.

European?davie wrote:He's above domestic level.Tanzio wrote:Tbh, it should be Khan and done. If not he should continue at domestic level.
Like Bellew said, no world champion is going to look at the top 15 rankings and pick Brook as a voluntary.. He will need to work his way as a mando again.. It already took him a long time to get the IBF title.. He's only 30, it can be done though again.
His glass eyes should be fine after the op, he will have 2 steel plates.. Anyone noticed, the eye that GGG damaged was spotless at the end of the fight. But when Brook eats a jab, his head always snaps back.

If he's risking serious injury to his sight then maybe he should retire

Retire?
Why?
You don't just retire because of 2 losses to genuine p4p contenders.
Move up to 154 and go for more titles. It's entirely possible he can beat most at that weight (at least be competitive). I don't understand this moving back to domestic/European level either. He is a proven world level fighter and is just 31.

Your right The interim title wasn't on the line as he didn't make weight and now cotto is fighting for the vacant WBO title so that opportunitys gone unless they make the rematch for the interim which is apparently happening September October timedavie wrote:I forgot Liam Smith. Re: Next for Kell Brook
I think is the most likely and sensible option. The Khan fight could easily happen at 154 although I suspect Khan doesn't really want it as apparently he is now saying he'd prefer it at 147 with Brook seemingly heading up a division. Kell has been a world champion, he could become a two-weight world champion instead of chasing the big money fights, just move to light-middle and let things happen naturallyolij999 wrote:Move to 154 and have a decent ten rounder to get used to the weight and get comfortable with the repaired eye sockets. If the money was right they would pick him as a voluntary.
Joshua was Martin's voluntary.

Re: Next for Kell Brook
I think he should retire. He made a conscious decision to quit the biggest fight of his career in front of a career-biggest crowd to avoid the risk of injury. That doesnt bode well for the future and suggests he doesnt have the heart and instinct to put it all on the line at times of adversity. Boxing is a risky business.tobyh5 wrote:Why are people suggesting he retires? The guy is only 31 years old and not even close to having a full career cycle. Re: Next for Kell Brook
I don't know. His "all of the lights" Sheffield gig was getting dull.
The man didn't seem to focus on his own title and his own mando, lost sight of the big picture instead getting distracted by the middleweight fight with Golovkin and endlessly calling out Khan.
Hope Brook can rebound because he might be a considerably better light middleweight. But people will be looking to put the finish on him after two stoppage defeats.

Move up a weight
Liam smith later in the year, then khan next year

Re: Next for Kell Brook
I meant to say euro level, but you are correct, Brook is above that. However, if he goes up in weight, which seems a given, he will be facing bigger punchers at world level on average than he has at welter.davie wrote:He's above domestic level.Tanzio wrote:Tbh, it should be Khan and done. There is no doubt that if his skull is completely repaired and his mental state is good that he can continue to compete with his set of skills and gifts. It is up to him, of course.
I just don't see an upside for him at world level beyond the Khan fight. Why risk it if you have secured a comfortable future?
Re: Next for Kell Brook
Its clear to me now that Brook is mentally and physically broken. I guess he will roll a dice at 154 but I predict he will come short. His days at the world level is over.
Re: Next for Kell Brook
Khan would be at a big disadvantage against brook at 154 imo, thats a 147 fight. I suspect khan will try and get the fight with Spence.Jackson328 wrote:I think is the most likely and sensible option. Re: Next for Kell Brook
Khan fought Alvarez at practically the light-middleweight limit though didn't he? Its a fair enough comment though because its clear to see that Brook is naturally bigger than Khan who's best days imo were at 140.Finn wrote:Khan would be at a big disadvantage against brook at 154 imo, thats a 147 fight. It's also clear to me that Khan really doesn't want any part of Kell unless he gets it all his own way in negotiations, he produces excuse after excuse every time. Brook has already said he thinks his future is at 154 so that's Khans next excuse boxed off.

So true chris, bellew did get slated but i think that was to do with him saying the same against stevenson then not delivering himself (bellew had an excuse thiugh being like a skeleton at the weight)Chris W 1982 wrote:A little something I wrote on him

It does look like a case of damage done.Tarkus wrote:Its clear to me now that Brook is mentally and physically broken. I guess he will roll a dice at 154 but I predict he will come short. His days at the world level is over.
But it could be a case of how invigorated he is by the extra weight at 154.
Think with the right opponent he can do it. But that it's a matter of, soon as he faces someone aggressive and determined he'll crumble.
