Is Carlos DeLeon a forgotten Cruiserweight and Puerto Rican Great?

Post by scorpio83 »

Does anyone think that "Sugar" Carlos DeLeon a forgotten Puerto Rican great despite the fact that he won the cruiserweight title four times in his career? We all knew Puerto Rican greats like Wilfred Benitez, Felix "Tito" Trinidad, Hector Camacho Sr, Wilfredo Gomez, Carlos Ortiz and Jose Torres just to name several, but does DeLeon belong to the greats in his native country?

I believe he does. With a little more discipline he would be regarded much better.

If he was, he'd perhaps have given Holyfield a great fight.

Well done to him, winning the titles he won, though.

Looked at his best like a very difficult guy to take on. Slippery and a sharp puncher.

Sadly Johnny Nelson was awarded a shot at him, wouldn't throw punches and De Leon drew with him in one of the worst title fights in history.

Can anyone recommend his best fights?

Thanks for the answer and please answer one question. Is Carlos DeLeon a bigger man version of his fellow countryman Wilfred Benitez?
