Do you prefer HW division ?
Yes, I do. For me HW is the most important division in boxing. What do you think about ?

Re: Do you prefer HW division ?
I agree and I have always liked this division the most.
Re: Do you prefer HW division ?
I think welterweight, but for me, I really like the featherweight division. Most of my favorite fighters started there or ended up there.
Re: Do you prefer HW division ?
Anything above bantam I like, just depends which division has the most competition and best fighters at the time
Re: Do you prefer HW division ?
You're missing out on flyweight then. It was the best division in boxing for a while. Only one I can understand people not at all paying attention to is minimumweight. That's a god-awful division.Ossyrules wrote:Anything above bantam I like, just depends which division has the most competition and best fighters at the time

Maybe I should give it a chance. I know Andrew Selby is a terrific talent. It just goes right under the radar for meMexi-Box wrote:You're missing out on flyweight then. Pretty irresitible if theres a good heavyweight match up but its all down to the fighters styles.
Middleweight and above are generally my favourites to watch, but again it depends on the fighters, Mikey Garcia and Crawford have really captivated me. Their latest performances are what I love in a boxing match, however one sided. Also don't mind watching some of the huge welters and super welts, who are pretty much middleweight and above these days. I wold call myself a casual fight fan, don't know too many names and don't understand much of the backstage business s%!t but I'm slowly learning with all the arguments on boxrec.

I think welter and Middle are normally a great balance between boxing skills and power. The divisions are normally pretty deep too due to the more common size men that make these weights.

Re: Do you prefer HW division ?
The minimumweight division is a pretty strange one, when it's good it's fantastic (Yaegashi vs Ioka, Takayama vs Rodriguez, Yaegashi vs Porpramook, Rojas vs Budler, Tanaka vs Hara) and we do get some 50-50 bouts (Knockout vs Buitrago I/II, Wanheng vs Juarez, Knockout vs Rojas) and right now the division has a host of potentially thrilling match ups (throw Fukuhara, Knockout, Wanheng, Mendoza, Hara, Kyoguchi, Loreto, Rojas, Juarez, Buitrago, together and you should get something fun!)Mexi-Box wrote:You're missing out on flyweight then. For the most part I tend to follow fighters, but if I had to pick divisions probably heavyweight and middleweight

Re: Do you prefer HW division ?
Despite the lower division fighters having much more skill, speed and reflexes on show (Ali, Tyson, Dempsey etc excepted) I've always preferred the heavyweight division. If for nothing else the heavyweight champion is the champion boxer of the world, not just the division.
The recent growth in the science of massive weight loss /rehydration to fight at the lowest weight doesn't confuse the issues in the heavyweights. These guys just need to get in the best shape possible to go twelve hard rounds if necessary.

Re: Do you prefer HW division ?
People say the problem in the HW division is lack of talent.
No, its lack of fights.
Failed PEDs, ducking and injuries are the 3 problems.
If Wilder, Wlad, Joshua, Browne, Pulev, Miller, Ortiz, Parker, Povetkin all fought each other 3 to 4 times a year, the interest, not necessarily the talent would go thru the roof.

I've always loved the heavyweight division. It's what hooked me in the first place and It's never let me go. I appreciate you often see better boxing at lighter weights but I can't get as excited about a couple of midgets, the way I can two mighty specimens who need to duck to get through their front door, each with the power to KTFO the other. No complications about making weight. No weight-weakened excuses, no ducking and diving between weight divisions to give your bogeyman the slip and best of all, as has been said already, the knowledge that the champion of the heavyweight division is the champion of all boxing.
That doesn't mean I can't enjoy the lighter weights but heavies are number one for me.

Not at all, when it's great it's as good as it gets, but it's rare and especially in recent times. The Heavyweight division has produced crap for a long, long, time.
Re: Do you prefer HW division ?
The division where Christian Hammer is arguably top ten?
AJ is a great guy to have at the top of the division, and Wilder and Pov bring excitement, but it peters out very quickly into trundling slob territory.

Re: Do you prefer HW division ?
Is the HW division really producing all these great knockouts and knockdowns that we see nothing of in other divisions? I don't think so, and I find the HW bouts of the last few years to be relatively slow and uneventful (of course there are exceptions).
In theory HW would be the division for people like me who favour power, but in current practice you get a lot of Wach-Teper kind of stuff. The mere idea that two giants are fighting is enough to create a sense of excited anticipation for some people, and I suppose that's understandable.
Of of the reasons I like cruiser so much is because not only do you have power, you also have speed, conditioning, and highly competitive match-ups.

Re: Do you prefer HW division ?
All my friends know Klitschko brothers, Joshua, Haye, Povetkin and Fury. All women around me know them.
Majority of my friends have no idea about Lomachenko, Rigo, Canelo, GGG, Kovalev, Ward, Usyk, Spence, etc, etc...
Mayweather could be the only exception, one of my friends said for him "tiny, wealthy American dude, with expensive cars and a lot of jewelry"...

I just want to see the best face each other no matter what the devision is.
Re: Do you prefer HW division ?
Thanks Valmar. Reading your post and recognizing the truth of it, does make me a little sheepish about admitting my love of the division which is the undisputed favourite of the casual fan. Oh well, I guess there is good reason for that so I might as well embrace it.

All my friends (literally, all of them) had watched Joshua vs Klitschko, and they have been talking about this match non-stop.candyslim wrote:Thanks Valmar. When I tried to begin discussion about Spence vs Brook, they didn't know anything about the match. Some of them told me that they wouldn't waste their time watching the midgets. Sad, but true...
Re: Do you prefer HW division ?
I don't go by the division but by the boxer... Right now, there's a lot really great fighters out there in so many divisions...
And right now there's a lot of great Heavyweights... But Lomachenko is still the greatest boxer in the game.

Elite heavyweights are fantastic.
But overall, light, welter and middle for me.
