I think DeGale would win on points.

I still rate Groves highly. People look at his knock down by Kenny Anderson and the Froch and Jack defeats in World title bouts and seem to think he is past his best. I think he would beat DeGale again. He seems to have more intensity and more power than DeGale. Agree with the poster who mentioned the Shane McGuigan factor too.
A rematch between Groves and DeGale would do good business. If Jack happened to defeat DeGale and goes on to face Callum Smith then the fight becomes quite likely I think.

after the DeGale/Jack draw, does anybody have a fresh opinion on the outcome of a Groves/DeGale fight?

If it happens again, I fancy DeGale to put it on him. He has enough power to stop Groves.

Groves knows what he is and is aware of his limitations. DeGale thinks he's better than he actually is.

I suspect that these two could fight 7 times with 3 wins each and a draw. DeGale has to be one of the most frustrating boxers ever. Looks awesome for four rounds, but then seems knackered and has to fiddle his way through. Surely something isn't right with how he's preparing...

Absolutely my opinion. They would both be really up for it. The build up, the history between them would make good press. I would welcome this fight and if I were Degale's management try and make the fight as it would sell very well in the U.K. and expose Degale to the UK fan base, as he does almost seem like Britain's forgotten champ.

I'd love this fight to happen.

I would love to see them fight again. Groves has the nod for power and for some reason I just think he has Degale's number. I could be spectacularly wrong though.

Next defense for Chunky?

I don't know. At this point, i don't rate them as highly as i did a few years ago. Back when Groves had his first fight with Froch, i was convinced he had the tools to become THE #1 of 168 after Ward is gone. Now he's basically just a Top-10 fighter. DeGale, in early 2015, i thought he could be absolute Elite & rule 168 like Ward did. Then he didn't look to good against rusty Dirrell, Bute or Jack.

I don't even want a rematch between these two. I'd rather watch them against Ramirez, he beats them both, IMO.

I think DeGale wins; he's made a heap of improvements in terms of attitude, preparation and experience gained.
Admittedly, George has not be treading water himself but DeGale has been winning as well as progressing.

The breaks James takes in his fights does present a decent opening for George however, especially if the McGuigan's get his undivided attention and seek to construct a gameplan around making each and every round as busy as hell.

Pressing at the exact when James wants to take skirt around the ring and generally not engage has got to be an option, so too is setting a fast pace from the get-go so that George forces some of these walkabouts to happen.

On balance though, I'd go for DeGale nicking it.

Degale is generally considered to have the engine out of the two. If the fights at a pace, groves has been the fader out the two

I think groves beats degale but it's a close fight.

Overall I think he's a slightly better boxer and has a couple of really nice weapons in the jab and the right hand. I also give footwork, distance and timing to groves.

Degale could win but he'd need to be aggressive and not let the groves jab and smart work off the back foot/counters open him up too much. Degale would need to try and make it a bit rough and throw punches in bunches, see if he can get groves to wilt

I don't think Groves's stamina is as bad as it's often made out to be. Froch is the type who will end stronger against pretty much anyone, and Groves's work rate actually stays decent late into fights, even when he's got the body language of a tired fighter; I think he's one of those who doesn't do a good job of concealing what he's feeling.

Degale doesn't seem to have any fight planned right now and Groves is going for the WBA this month so when do we think this could happen? If Groves wins then its an obvious match to make for the Autumn or will Groves fancy a mandatory first? If he finally wins a belt in his 4th attempt I'm not sure he'd want a high-risk first defence. And surely Degale will need to fight again this summer before any potential unification. I think it could be next year before this fight happens

The George groves we saw in the first Froch fight, and right up until the moment he was sparked in the second fight beats any version of James Degale we have seen, in my opinion. He was so confident, had huge spite in that cross right all set up by his razor sharp jab. Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ll ever see that version of him again. Firstly because Booth seemed to be perfect for him, secondly the froch fights took too much out of him – in his mental make up.

He’s still a talent, but at this point in their careers I think degale beats him – on points. Bit too slick and has bags of confidence to go with it. If Groves could find a way of punishing in him in the mid-rounds degale likes to take off, that’s where he could win it, but he seems to have lost that killer instinct. Possibly more so after his last fight and how the awful outcome. Just read an interview where says as much himself, he doesn’t know how he’s gonna react in the ring anymore.

As always I’d be rooting for him as he’s still one of my favorite fighters.

I thought degale nicked the first one. Another close fight, judges go degales way this time. Though at some point I get the feeling James chin will crack, he's taking a lot of shots in his last few fights and they add up. An early shocking groves ko wouldn't shock me as much as it would most.

Agreed Crusader :TU:

Ossyrules makes some great points btw...but what has always bugged me about James is that he fights in bursts and then takes some real, obvious 'down time' to recover and he is often quite hittable at this juncture or at the very least slips a crucial round on the cards.

To be fair - it is not as bad as it used to be - but it does offer Groves something to exploit.

If George just boxes consistently at a decent high, pace then the openings might well come for him and Shane might well set-up George to do exactly that. And Groves does have the speed and power to punish any cruise-control moments James opts to take.

Groves has enough of an engine to do this I think and waiting for the lapses might be key.
