Congratulation to Spence for his big win, he should fight more often
Spence proved he's a true champion but he should avoid long lay-offs and fight at least 3 times per year. Thurman, Porter, Garcia and Matthysse would be great opponents for him.

Spence himself said that he hated the fact that he had to have a 9 month layoff, and it affected his performance. If it is up to him he will be much more active.apollo creed wrote:Spence proved he's a true champion but he should avoid long lay-offs and fight at least 3 times per year. Inactivity is a hell of an enemy for a fighter.Badhusker wrote:Spence himself said that he hated the fact that he had to have a 9 month layoff, and it affected his performance. Inactivity is the #1 trademark of the pbc.

Trademark off all US boxers not just pbc where's Tim Bradley or Sadam Ali, how about Nonito Donaire or Walters or Andy Ruiz.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Inactivity is the #1 trademark of the pbc.

Your list isn't exactly us boxers. Lol, the money makes activity rare. But the inactivity of pbc boxers trumps the ready by quite a bit. Bradley doesn't want to fight, many of those guys do.world ranked wrote:Trademark off all US boxers not just pbc where's Tim Bradley or Sadam Ali, how about Nonito Donaire or Walters or Andy Ruiz.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Inactivity is the #1 trademark of the pbc.

So ur premise was inactivity is a pbc trademark now its excuses why guys aren't fighting. I gave examples of non-pbc guys who aren't active. Its a US boxing thing as dates and money is scarce. I just pointing out its not just a pbc thing. Some of these fighters aren't from the US but have made there name in the US and have a US promoter.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Your list isn't exactly us boxers. Lol, the money makes activity rare. The 'problem' for Spence now is that he is a 'champion' & when you own a trinket, your activity rate falls off a cliff for some reason.
A good few modern champions tend to fight twice a year tops & that's if you're lucky.
As recently as the Tyson era, he was fighting 4 times a year, but that seems to be a long lost wish.
I can't see Spence Jr fighting more than once or twice a year now, unless the is prepared to go down the Julio Cesar Chavez route & have non-title fights in-between his title defences, but that is a rare phenomenon these days.
I was also thinking about Anthony Joshua in this respect & as daft as it sounds, he might have become a 'champion' too early.
He is still a borderline novice & is learning on the job, but because he is now a so-called world heavyweight champion, he too will end up having no more than 2 fights a year & I doubt he will have more than 30 fights in his whole career.
In short, Spence Jr & the like do need to fight more often, but modern world championship boxing seemingly cannot abide by that notion.

Mayweather started the whole one or two fights a year....and bozo wanabees like khan and haye bought it....i have confidence joshua will fight 3 or 4 times a year... 3 or 4 fights should be the standard for a eorld champion

And you're mad if you think Hearn will have Joshua fighting 3 or four times a year.

There is absolutely no way on Earth that Joshua will fight 4 times a year; not whilst he is a trinket holder.Bricks wrote:Mayweather started the whole one or two fights a year....and bozo wanabees like khan and haye bought it....i have confidence joshua will fight 3 or 4 times a year... 3 or 4 fights should be the standard for a eorld champion
You'd be lucky if he managed 3 times a year & the most likely scenario is twice a year.
I also believe that champions should be fighting 4 times a year & I don't see why they can't, illness or injury aside, but the way modern boxing is, there seemingly isn't the appetite for champions to fight frequently.
Boxing now seems to be more about the hype & the build-up rather than actual fighting.
