WBC Donates "Huichol Belt" To Museum as Canelo Stands Firm
The World Boxing Council has donated the WBC's "Huichol" belt to a museum in Mexico City, after the commemorative title was rejected by Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.
The belt will be delivered to the Museum Soumaya de Polanco before finishing in the Museum of Sport that is budgeted to open at the end of the year.
"We have decided that this belt must be with the people. It will be delivered today to the family of former President Adolfo Lopez Mateos and then will be taken to the Soumaya Museum before ending up at the Museum of Sport. It will be shared with Mexicans and foreign visitors," Sulaiman told ESPN Deportes.

Re: WBC Donates "Huichol Belt" To Museum as Canelo Stands Firm
The WBC decided to create their commemorative Mexican belt after being told by Canelo that their involvement for the Chavez Jr. bout wasn't required, since it was a non-title contest, coupled with the fact that Saul believed that Mauricio Sulaimán's organisation had previously treated him unfairly.
So after heavily-publicising this belt, which was almost certainly only created as a desperate bid to receive at least $400K in sanctioning-fees, the WBC couldn't have simply binned it, could they?
Instead, the WBC are exploiting an opportunity to portray their organisation in a charitable light, by donating it to a museum. The only silver lining to a very dark cloud type of situation for them.
The WBC's desperate attempts to gain sanctioning-fees and to then unfairly slur Canelo's name because he refused their belt (due to not wanting to pay their extortionate fees), is utterly disgraceful.
Mauricio Sulaimán should apologise to Canelo, because if he doesn't, Golovkin's WBC title won't be on the line when Alvarez faces GGG in September, which could result in that organisation missing out on almost $1m in sanctioning-fees.

They still expect GGG to put the title at stake.. as in if he loses, title gets vacated. I don't think he's too fussed with Canelo.Enlightened-One wrote:

3% of Golovkin’s fight purse (considering he’s the B-side fighter) is far smaller than Canelo’s. And the WBC would be entitled to 3% in sanctioning-fee payments from the paydays of both fighters if the WBC world title was at stake for both men.Ruthless-RKO wrote:They still expect GGG to put the title at stake.. as in if he loses, title gets vacated. The WBC would almost certainly be very "fussed" about missing out on receiving roughly $1m from Canelo.

Canelo is not stupid. Why he should give free money to some org. that didn't do $hit for him?! ABC org. are leeches that are parasitizing the fighters. #NOtrinketsinboxing!

But they might not be? We don't know.

Slowly but firmly the fighters will understand that you can succeed in boxing without holding a trinket and give your hard earned money for it.

It's been officially confirmed today that Canelo won't capture the WBC title if he defeats Gennady Golovkin, so it'll become vacant.
However, GGG will still be credited with making a successful defence of his WBC title if he manages to emerge victorious in his fight against Canelo.
Therefore, the WBC won't be receiving any sanctioning fees from Canelo.
