Alexander vs. Collazo in Play For Potential Garcia-Broner Card
If Garcia-Broner comes together, sources have now advised BS.com that the co-feature bout will pit Brooklyn native and former champ Luis Collazo (37-7) against former two-division champion Devon Alexander (26-4) in a crossroads battle.
Collazo, who is a former welterweight champion, last fought in February when he pulled off an upset knockout victory against Sammy Vasquez. The southpaw has won six of his last eight bouts with his only losses coming against Keith Thurman and Amir Khan.
Alexander, who is also left handed, has been out of the ring for over a year and a half and will attempt to bounce back from back to back defeats against Arron Martinez and Khan. The St. Louis native has held titles at 140 and 147 pounds.

Re: Alexander vs. Collazo in Play For Potential Garcia-Broner Card
Collazo's been on a bit of a role lately, and has gotten some of the best wins of his career in the last few years. Alexander has just went into hiding since his upset loss to Aaron Martinez. He should still have plenty left in the tank physically, but it seems as if he's mentally unraveled and isn't able to compete at his best anymore.
I think Collazo is a stronger willed guy and has handled his career misfortunes more professionally, and just kept going and giving his best. I think he'll be able to win a close decision over Alexander.
Those 2 years of inactivity ain't doing Alexander no favors.

It's a pointless fight. I would hate to see it on such a good main event.Ossyrules wrote:I agree with Gilgamesh

I agree. Two guys who are pretty much gatekeepers in the a fight that doesn't advance anything. Alexander has always been boring anyway.Mexi-Box wrote:It's a pointless fight. I would hate to see it on such a good main event.Ossyrules wrote:I agree with Gilgamesh

Its an interesting match up though . would you rather it be some up and comer against a no hoper or one of them against some no hoper in a bounce back fight ? At least it'll be interesting because its a 5050 fight. Then whoever wins can be the no hoper going up against some champion or up and comer in their next fightjockpunk wrote:I agree. Exactly.. it's not a bad match up in a way where the winner will climb some rankings and make for a decent opponent for a currents/future champion..sykessta wrote:Its an interesting match up though . would you rather it be some up and comer against a no hoper or one of them against some no hoper in a bounce back fight ? Why do you keep bringing this up? I don't think I ever said I would put you on ignore. I just said your an idiot who should be ignored, IIRC.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Says the guy who has me on ignore.Mexi-Box wrote:SaadOffTheDeck wrote:There ain't gonna be no Garcia/broner card anytime soon.![]()

Re: Alexander vs. Collazo in Play For Potential Garcia-Broner Card
I think this fight is fine. I've been unhappy with the fact that Alexander has been absent, and this is an appropriate comeback fight. Though, even winning this fight, Alexander won't be credible as a world class threat. I would be satisfied if this fight led to a fight with Vargas, Peterson, Broner, Khan, or Sam Eggington.
