Canelo gets little credit if he beats GGG.. And if he does beat GGG convincingly, if you watch the fight in black and white, in slow motion from your roof with a umbrella and the TV is upside down, GGG actually won.

Golovkin just beat his best Middleweight opponent to date, and has still looked very solid. If Canelo beats him I'll be very impressed.

Golovkin beat some top mw guys at that time like : Proksa, Stevens, Rubio, Murray, Macklin, Geale, Lemieux-ibf (who still is a top mw) and of course Jacobs. If you search the rankings those guys were in top 10. Only fighters that blatantly ducked GGG at that time were Felix Sturm, Martinez - who was shot and in looking for big payday-Cotto and Quillin.

Golovkin pretty much cleaned out the middleweight division.
