Tarver: "I Will Floor Hopkins In Five Rounds"
nah, Hopkins was tough but very limited back in 93. I think Hopkins started to reinvent himself aroud the 2nd Mercado fight, in 95, and seemed to peak in 97 with the JD Jackson, G Johnson, and Andrew Council beatings, when his technique had really been sharpenedstujones wrote:I think this interesting debate is getting to the end, enjoyed it.
Just one question - you don't think Hopkins was at his peak when he fought Roy?
you could tell in 93 that Jones was going to be a great fighter, but Hopkins seemed a bit average in the Jones and Mercado I fights. Bernard seemed to be a very slow learner, but when he peaked he was quite brilliant
On a similar note has anyone seen the Mercado first fight? Great fight, Hopkins looked good coming forward a far cry from the safety first technician he became (not that i'm knocking him for it ). He got dropped twice and fought hard for a draw, on hostile territory in really tough conditions as well.
