Groves Degale Purse Split
Groves Degale Purse Split
James reckons he deserves more than a 50/50 split should he and George fight again.
I say 50/50 is fair
But what say you?

Re: Groves Degale Purse Split
According to an article he wrote in the daily mirror, he's out for several months due to shoulder surgery, which he said he injured prior to porky medina fight
Re: Groves Degale Purse Split
60/40 to the winner
Re: Groves Degale Purse Split
I'd rather one of them fought Callum Smith if he wins a world title.
Re: Groves Degale Purse Split
I voted a 50/50 split ftr

I would say this too.DannyMCR wrote:60/40 to the winner

Now Groves has a title, which he won more convincingly than DeGale - I would say 50:50. Groves is a much bigger name and clearly not been as badly "Cobra'd" as Carl claimed.

Re: Groves Degale Purse Split
Tricky one to call. I give James the edge in terms of his record - winning the title and defending it in USA and also winning and defending it against a better calibre of opponent than Chudinov. But George can rightly claim that he beat James when they fought.
In terms of putting bums on seats you have to give George the edge. The general public know who George is, albeit as the man who Froch KOd, whereas James probably only generates a flicker of recognition from his Olympic feats.
I think on balance 50/50 is spot on here and both fighters should be careful not to let their egos price themselves out of a deal which let's be honest will be the biggest payday that either has left in their career.

Re: Groves Degale Purse Split
Even though Groves has earned 50/50 Degale ego wont allow 50/50. He'll say he fought the best in US blah, blah.

I always get the impression there is more "hatred" from degales side than groves tbh. If you read a lot of articles or interviews with degale, he rarely misses an opportunity to throw a dig in. I think groves is marginally more less bothered than degale, probably by virtue of having beaten him twice

Re: Groves Degale Purse Split
Groves out does DeGale in wins, ticket sales, PPV sales and UK recognition.
DeGale brings a bigger name Stateside to the table.
50/50 is what DeGale should be happy with. Groves is the one who should be asking for a little more, probably 60/40.
If DeGale is his usual arrogant self then Groves will dig his heels in and ask for more.
If DeGale agrees to 50/50 with no complaints then I would imagine Groves will accept that to get the fight made.
DeGales attitude in negotiations will dictate how Groves plays it...

In the article I attached to the original post he said he's going to fight before the end of the year. Groves just had an op on his broken jaw so a December fight suits both men.Ossyrules wrote:According to an article he wrote in the daily mirror, he's out for several months due to shoulder surgery, which he said he injured prior to porky medina fight

Stu, please refresh my memory. Where was the Froch Groves rematch & how many people were there?stujones wrote:Now Groves has a title, which he won more convincingly than DeGale - I would say 50:50. Groves is a much bigger name and clearly not been as badly "Cobra'd" as Carl claimed.
Re: Groves Degale Purse Split
Big fight, both world champs, both big names domestically anyway. 50/50.

In the first Groves Degale fight (pro) I felt that James lost it rather than George won it, if you know what I mean.Ossyrules wrote:Agree completely with thisCaptainSpacerod wrote:Tricky one to call. And he's still fighting the same way. Looking brilliant in spurts then not doing much for rounds at a time.

Re: Groves Degale Purse Split
I would say the O2 is the favourite venue if there were to get made. O2 has a capacity of 20,000 doesn't it? Although I think this would be a great venue for this type of fight, I would say it could sell more than 20,000 tickets easily. How many do you guys think it would sell?
Re: Groves Degale Purse Split
It would definitely sell out. & they could add in the Chelsea v Arsenal angle. That wouldn't cause any trouble, would itfightfan95 wrote:I would say the O2 is the favourite venue if there were to get made. O2 has a capacity of 20,000 doesn't it? James is a big Arsenal fan so maybe the Emirates is feasible although that would probably mean waiting until next summerfightfan95 wrote:I would say the O2 is the favourite venue if there were to get made. I can't agree with that assessment of the first fight.Taansend wrote:In the first Groves Degale fight (pro) I felt that James lost it rather than George won it, if you know what I mean.Ossyrules wrote:Agree completely with thisCaptainSpacerod wrote:Tricky one to call. Degale was getting outclassed and outboxed for the first half of that fight. He dragged himself back in it to his credit, but groves was on the front foot in that fight from the off. If degale had started better then took his foot off (oscar Tito style), then your point would work for me

Agree 60/40 to the winner or 50/50.DannyMCR wrote:60/40 to the winner
Re: Groves Degale Purse Split
I would say 50/50 is fair for sure.
It feels as though a second fight between the two could have less exposure than the first. Despite both being in the relative infancy of their careers for the first fight, there was plenty of interest in their rivalry and the fight was PPV. Both have had a lot of good fights since, both won world titles and yet the second fight could be less attractive to the casual fan.
I could be wrong, but that is my initial thought.
