That single punch was hardly the only reason why Joshua was in trouble in those middle rounds.
Autobarn wrote:He's not going to land a better punch than that right cross he dropped Joshua with.
Why not? I think that there is a very good chance that he will land a better shot.
Autobarn wrote:And I'm not certain he can outpoint AJ considering the majority of his work consists of feint, threats, prods and paws.
He was on his way to outpointing him the first time.
Autobarn wrote:I'm not convinced Wlad takes the rematch after being beaten up following so many tame fights in which he was able to fight on his own terms. Wlad played his role in a dramatic (based on those amazing three rounds) changing of the guard fight and I doubt it gets any better for him.
Beaten up?

You talk about their fight like Joshua was dominating Wlad, until Wlad landed a lucky punch in the 6th round which gave Wlad the advantage for a few rounds, before Joshua resumed battering Wlad around the ring again.

The amount of times he went down, Wlad would never win on points.

Wlad appeared to be ahead but a lot of it was stalling tactics. Wlad knows how to look good in there, positioning his feet, throwing feints, but doesn't actually produce that much. I'll give him that fifth round rally, where he absolutely had to come up with something after being dropped. And obviously that wonderful right cross which dropped Joshua.

That right cross was a stunner, Joshua never saw it, Wlad dropped in a left hook for good measure, and is one of Wlad's best ever shot along with the left hook that annihilated Pulev. I don't see a better shot coming and am really encouraged by Joshua's chin and - belated - recovery. AJ is a bad dude; he can fight. Klitschko can box and set up a good shot but he can't actually fight, he can't go in there trading shots. He's gassed and been KO'd or dropped too many times in his career.

This is one cautious man who initiated about 80 headlocks on an underpowered and poorly conditioned Povetkin and would rather throw David Haye repeatedly to the floor than hit him and hurt him inside.

Joshua wasn't perfect, he basically went for it twice, first time gassing himself more than he hurt Wlad and the second time doing the job properly. It was flawed, it was clumsy, but it was great and I've been waiting for a big dude to give 100% in training and in the actual fight and take it to Wlad.

It more than likely will. If the fight takes place.

have to agree with the majority view. there will be a big swing to joshua mentally in a rematch. he was near enough a rookie going in to the first fight.
and its hard to imagine klitschko would fight again so bravely.

of course if vlad could get himself psyched up again he has the power to hurt any man.

I think wlad will improve in a rematch if itvtakes place within the next 5 months...i predict he will come in geavier at 250 lbs snd wont move so much.he will hold a hell of a lot more and lean on joshua to wear him down and generally sit morevon shots.

He will be better prepared for joshuas sudden explosions....it will be another barnburner this time joshua being stopped in 9

No way. He only had success being light on his feet. Nothing in his career has ever proved he will come back from a hurting fight trading with people/holding his feet

Good. And I've said this before, but instead of boxing politics threatening to pull the titles apart (again) - why not have a Luis Ortiz (WBA Mando) vs Kubrat Pulev (IBF Mando) as the chief support for the AJ/Klit rematch.

And the winner gets a title shot for the unified title and a very big payday...

Well according to everybody who understands boxing.
If else, then what do you call this:

First 4 rounds were simply for Joshua.

Boxing isn't all about counting punches.

The vast majority of people did not give Joshua the first 4 rounds.

I expect AJ to come on a ton for the experience of fighting Wlad and be a better fighter in the rematch. That's the first real world class match up AJ has had, he's had to get off the floor, had to come back from adversity to win, and it's a hell of a boost to a fighter's confidence when he knows he can do that. I don't think AJ has got nearly enough credit for the way he handled going down for the first time. I think he will take much more from the first fight than Wlad will. I predict an earlier ko for AJ next time.
