Melbourne ring announcer Howard Leigh

Post by AntonS »

IMHO, he should call it quits.
He's reached the age where he is way too slow entering/exiting the ring & at times has difficulty spitting out decision/scores as the night progresses, albeit given simplified version of result & not score tally sheet.
At last Saturday's show (Melb Park) he questioned referees re judge Lynne Kennedy's scoring prior to announcing while microphone was on & made some unsuitable comments, which refs declined to entertain.....and were quite abrupt doing so.
It's time he was told he ain't "Star"of the show and maybe suggest he do self fashion parades in a Retirement Village to maintain some sort of activity what's left of his life....preferably early in the day & not past his bed time ;-) ;-)

Howard Leigh has never been inducted into the ANBHOF. He received the Gus Mercurio Award for services to boxing in Australia at the ANBHOF Induction Dinner in March.

Last night, I could tell something was terribly amiss from get go. Sad he doesn't realize ring announcing is now well & truly beyond him.

Howard was taken to hospital after the event last night.

I am sure the entire boxing community wish him a speedy recovery.

It is is often easy to forget the contribution people have made, especially, when they are in their twilight. Howard has been staple in Victorian boxing for decades.

Let's hope the boxing family can support and encourage him now in the event that he should need it.

IMHO, Paramedics should've been called after 1st bout. He clearly wasn't at Malvern Town Hall. Given he was frequently fiddling left side chest, I guess he's got a Pacemaker, which wasn't doing its job.
I wish him all the very best.
