Mayweather v McGregor

Post by Taansend »

I know this is the thread nobody wants but if this fight becomes a reality it will dwarf Canelo v GGG despite Boxings proper fans wishes :verysad:

My own view is that, although being in his 41st year & just about two years out of the ring, Mayweather will easily beat McGregor - I'd like to say stopping him around 6 rounds or so but Pretty Boy doesn't like to take chances so a dull points decision with plenty of grappling & posturing is the most likely outcome.

I've tossed in a poll with TWO options each in case you want to vote for the 6th choice :D

But even though many of us will be slagging this fight off, many will end up watching it. It's just the way we are. We may not pay for it but we'll watch it.

Half of me wants McGregor to knock Mayweather spark out but that would be terrible in terms of boxings reputation. But of course, that's why Floyd is the master as he knows how to play up that angle :OhYes:

The only way KO doesn't happen is if its a fix and Floyd agreed to carry Conor for 12 rounds.

That's my initial thought but (Victor Ortiz nonsense aside) Floyd has only stopped Ricky Hatton in the last 12 years stretching back 16 fights.

But can McGregor do 12 x 3 minute rounds? I don't really watch UFC/MMA so don't know too much about him.

Neither do I but I know he is not a boxer. Or more precisely he is a novice boxer. A novice with NO previous ring experience cant go 12 rounds against an elite ATG fighter. He will be completely out of his depth. It will be like this:

Thanks for option meteor, I didn't need another selection.
I hope it loses money, or Floyd gets KO'd but I don't care enough to even watch it, let alone pay to watch it.

I feel the same but I know I'll go to a 'party' where it's on. It will be full of MMA fans expecting McGregor to beat the shite out of Mayweather & then they watch a 12 round snorefest and vow NEVER to watch boxing again :verysad:

Totally agree, it's bad for boxing. A turn off for all the new fans after the fantastic AJ Wlad fight.
This year has had some mighty entertaining fights with more to come, but this isn't one of them.
I only wish we could somehow warn those casual fans to stear clear

I think it's worse for MMA. It's the biggest name in that sport going to something completely different to cash in on his profile, because it pays ten times at least what he can earn in his own field.

Previous boxers going to MMA have been past it and desperate. Reverse the sports and the undisputed MMA number one, in both performance and profile, is jumping ship for a guaranteed loss. For a sport that was going to take over it's not a good look.

This. I am utterly astonished that anyone on a boxing forum can think any differently.

If Floyd wants to knock him out he will. Even if it's not a clean KO, McGregor will take so much of a hiding the ref will have to step in or he'll have to quit.

I'm still harbouring a little hope that the fight doesn't go ahead. It's a fuckin joke.

I'm only going to watch it because it's McGregor whom chased for it. The money will be huge but he's going to get a pasting. This is literally going to be Man against boy, in a bad way.

If it's on I'd no doubt watch it but I wouldn't pay for it and I wouldn't stay up to daft o'clock to watch it either. Fukk that.

Mcgregor would be totally out of his depth, his footwork and technique will not be up to scratch for top level boxing, Mayweather would potshot at will and then when he wants to he will knock him out.

I don't know anything about UFC, so can only guess, McGregor is presumably hard as nails, and has a good punch on him...and that's it ? No boxing skills at all ? And this would be a normal fight under boxing rules ?

I'm not 100% certain but I think he trained as a boxer before getting into UFC although he's going up against one off the best boxers of all time so......

I'm a huge MMA fan, Conor has spent most of his career cutting insane amounts of weight to have a HUGE height & weight advantage over his opponents.

Then he fought Nate Diaz, a similar sized fighter who in the first fight was hurting Conor standing up & forced McGregor to turn into a grappler which backfired & he got tapped. Then in the close rematch he again had moments where he was being outboxed & many feel the close decision could have gone either way.

Nate Diaz is a decent boxer for MMA, but that doesn't make him a decent boxer for boxing & if he can do that to Conor I don't even want to think what Floyd will do to him. McGregeor can hope either he catches some insane punch because he does have power but we are talking about getting lucky on one of the best defensive boxers or beyond that he lasts the 12 rounds & can claim it as a moral victory for himself & MMA, but realistically neither of these are happening.
