Football to be shown 19:45pm Saturdays in next TV deal

Post by SAPFO »

I post it here as its relevant to boxing in the sense its in our time slot. What does this mean for undercard boxing? Surely if an EPL game is on, boxing will get less views?

What football ?. Will this include premier league games ?. Or just EPL ?.
Imagine Millwall vs. Leeds 7.45 Saturday night !!.

Yeh this was my first thought when I heard about this.To be fair Sky/BT have enough sports channels to keep both.

I dont support a premier league club but id be pissed off about this if I did.Just another example of TV companies playing with the traditions and fabric of a sport.

Saturday night football will be a disaster just as Friday night football has been

Proposed deal for the next EPL TV deal is to have matches on Saturdays at 745pm kick off so that would be on air to 10pm and on Sunday mornings as well as the previous times as they want to televise more matches.

I can't see boxing being on SKY at the same time if they showed it but maybe if BT did then SKY may counter with big fights to oppose them ?

The EPL is the Premier League.

Its useless pitting sports against each other as both stations lose viewers who would otherwise watch.

I find there's too much football on as it is. Since being relegated from the premier league I find I watch much less football but really enjoy the games I do see.

Boxing will take a huge hit. You won't get many people tuning in to an undercard if Chelsea vs Man United is on at the same time.

Don't give a toss about the Premier League, way too much of it already on tv. They should be putting less on, not more.

Genuine question, why is Friday night football a disaster? I've ended up watching quite a few games on a Friday night that I wouldn't have had any interest in if it wasnt on live.

Has it bombed with viewers?

I don't know figures but the fact they pretty much dropped it during the season tells you all you need to know. Friday and Saturday nights are date nights, family nights, shitty reality contest TV show nights.. they aren't for football - even football fans want those nights free from football!!
