wlad: what advice would you give?

Post by man »

first of all i find it fantastic that he takes
the fight. i found it great the first time
around, i find it even better now. wlad
after all shows the heart of a champion.

that said, how should he fight? me as a
fan i would like him to do the same as
he did last time. no holding, no tricks.
pure boxing. but is that what emanuel
would tell him too? and is it good advice
to win?

i'm torn on this. i think wlad should have
grabbed in the last round. else i just
loved the style and the action.

He just needs to box as though him and Joshua are equally-sized fighters, since they are. Implement more head movement, more hooks, more uppercuts, more combinations, initiate action with a triple jab while rhythming forward, circle off of Joshua's line, etc. Also, he needs to aim to control the brutality of the fight, i.e. circling, hugging, disengaging, jabbing. When he's hurt, he needs to slow things down; when Joshua is hurt, Wlad needs to step on the gas. This is all basic boxing. Most importantly, he needs a completely different trainer who can teach him how to fight like a boxer-puncher.

Klitschko needs to pray for good luck... box carefully all the way... and bide his time... If he hurts Joshua again he needs to jump on him like a raging tiger and finish him at all costs... AJ is not going to give him a 2nd opportunity if Wlad lands a lucky one.. He needs to finish AJ off or die.. Kill or be killed.

You're going to get knocked out early or knocked out late anyway -- so you MUST take your chances because Joshua is one of the best finishers in the game... If he gets you going he'll show no mercy because he intends to knock you out again -- early or late -- it doesn't matter to AJ.

If you're fighting an opponent of equal size, and your fighting tall style is completely useless, then yes, at any age. Wladimir 100% needs to adopt a new style, so he might as well get a competent trainer to teach him, rather than just winging it during the fight. The ol' "I can reach you but you can't reach me," was ineffective in his last two fights, and it was also ineffective when Vitali failed to adapt against Lennox. Whichever boxer fights like he is aware that they are the same size is the fighter who is most advantaged in this match-up.

... and I'm someone who is always of the believe that you don't switch styles or switch trainers. But it's impossible to be bigger than an opponent of equal size, so his existing skillset is of 0 use to him.
