The bans are enforced in an arbitrary and capricious manner

Good question and I have an answer!

I placed it there and was honestly wondering if someone would pick up on that BEFORE OR AFTER anyone had any pragmatic/usefull feedback (of any kind) on the thing which we all nearly universally disdain....

I'm speaking of course of "rules".

The bans are enforced in an arbitrary and capricious manner. I notice if a personal attack is made with a patina of sophistication even if it is faux sophistication it is allowed to stand. However frontal personal attacks are deleted. I have more respect for the posters who make the latter and not the former.

good response. Judgment of this nature is always subjective and can never find unanimity of opinion. Between mods it's going to have a different face/resonance. However the number of warnings before a ban will always be three, and always by at least two different moderators.

Mods are going to misjudge on occasion. And overall the blatant and boldest rule breakers are probably more likely to be more seriously redressed than those who use tact, diplomacy, self deprecating humor, or display some sort of self reflection etc. I'm not sure that's all that hard to understand.

Like you, I prefer straight forward rule breakers, because both the attacker and the attacked can be more sure of just what the consequences are, and should be. If I know what the rule is, break the rule, tell you I intend to continue to do so, that's a pretty honest exchange. I would think the consequence should be just as honest as well.

They apparently are. I was denied and banned in the matter of a few minutes. I wrote adims but still had to re-register to post this. No links involved.
I made a post about "Sailor Jim White" and I asked , I thought quite politely, whether the link I posted was acceptable even though it was directed to a 1940's bottle that was possibly made by that Sailor Jim White. Instead I was denied the post and membership deleted.
As a stated I was merely looking for information and attempting to give some back. I specifically stated no registration required to the site I a moderator on. I thought if this was the same "Sailor Jim White" of your records at XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (would be this site but if it's automatic I didn't want to chance it)
you may be interested and I would like more also. Sorry for bothering you. You could have just edited it or delayed the posting. Here is the text of the email I received,

Hello cowseatmaize,

You are receiving this notification because your topic "Sailor White's
liniment" at "Boxing Record Archive" was disapproved by a moderator or
administrator.

The following reason was given for the disapproval:

The reported message has the only purpose to advertise for a website or

^ ^ was that a fact? IF SO.. it is quite clear and reasonable the rule against "advertising".

Interesting comment....you've not responded to my PM's to you in the past. And you've never been warned formally though you've dealt quite a few insults.

I suppose I'll remain selective.....as I'm going to continue to allow you to insult folks, until/unless the feedback gets to be so much that I"m forced to take action by popular demand.

Now, as for people insulting you....sure....send me a pm I'll look into it. But your a bit of a snowflake if you dish out what you do, while complaining when it comes back at ya.

Nevertheless...I'll look into it. I don't always read every thread...so you'll need to point it out....either here or preferably by way of PM to me.

There's forum rules here, in the British section and Aus section yet none that I can see in the Current Scene. Is this why the current scene is so toxic.
