Ward vs Kovalev 2 RBR Discussion
Let's keep this the master thread for tonight's fights since there's a lot of clutter underneath it.
I'm going against my better judgement and taking Kovalev by DEC at +390 because the odds are just too good. My reasoning is judges are notorious for scoring close rounds in a rematch to the fighter the court of public opinion believed got an unfair shake the first time around. The key for Kovalev is keeping this fight on the outside. Tony Weeks allows a lot of infighting. Kovalev can't afford to be wasting energy wrestling with Ward. He needs to avoid trying to land kill shots and blowing himself out. Use your range. Use your distance. Cut off the ring but don't chase. Fight smart. He can beat Ward from the outside. He can't beat him on the inside.

- Can we get some butt monkeys to record Son of Shhh attempted butts and landed butts, butt jabs and power butts?
And maybe attempted hit on the breaks and landed hit on the breaks and what that % is? And how many times the ref pulls Kov off the poor dear and how many Kov knockdowns the ref misses along with the collective ages of the judges and a complete Vada spread sheet?
We need more the usual Vegas garbage in garbage out report!

Re: Ward vs Kovalev 2 RBR Discussion
The crucial factor in the fight is Ward's activity. He basically has to keep his output on that knife-edge of throwing enough to win but not too much to open himself up to that power.
I don't think he'll be throwing much more than the last fight because he simply can't afford to. It was close last time but there is more margin for error for Kovalev since Ward won't be hurting him.
I think Kova will be very conscious of pacing and fight very disciplined while subtly upping the output, even if it means just hitting arms and shoulders.
Rooting for Kova to win this bigtime. Getting a stoppage would be the icing on the cake. Either way very interested to see what Ward has to say should he lose.

Was there an IBF same morning weigh-in ?
Re: Ward vs Kovalev 2 RBR Discussion
Kovalev would do well to keep that Russian moron out of his corner this time and let JDJ actually instruct him what to do. The Russian moron got him beat. He made absolutely zero adjustments in the 2H of the fight. So that guy should be given a seat 6 rows back as apparently he was the one doing the talking in the corner, as Kovalev said after the fight.

JDJ said that there will be another interpreter. They discussed the subject with Kovalev and Klimas.diddy wrote:Kovalev would do well to keep that Russian moron out of his corner this time and let JDJ actually instruct him what to do. Great. More miscommunication. Kovalev speaks English. Wtf does he need an interpreter for?

Kovalev clearly won the first fight & he's the better fighter.
But with 4 US officials & dirty head games from Ward's camp, Ward by gift UD. The ref will permit him to use illegal tactics, as always.

Ward points for me. I just think he's the better allround fighter. I agree Kov should keep it long, try and impose that excellent jab of his.

Kovalev has a brain. I expect him to use it in this fight. Not sure what Ward can do differently. If he ups the pace he gets starched.

Kovalev sure didn't do anything different the first fight. One guy adjusted. One didn't.Riddick Blowe wrote:Kovalev has a brain. I expect him to use it in this fight. Not sure what Ward can do differently. If he ups the pace he gets starched.

One guy had to adjust, the other didn't. Sergey really shouldn't change a thing. He's the better boxer, just outbox him again and hope they get it right this time.

Ward-Kovalev II: ‘No Excuses’
With the rematch between Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev finally set for June 17th, the promoters have come up with the tagline of “No Excuses” for the card. The card will be held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and air live on HBO PPV.
As per a report from WBN, Ward and Kovalev are scheduled to partake in a three-city press tour starting next week to formally announce the fight. They’ll hit New York City, Ward’s native Bay-area, and Los Angeles.
Here’s what Ward had to say about his upcoming sequel with the Krusher after the initial announcement:
“I'm going to keep it short and sweet. You got what you asked for - now you have to see me on June 17. This time...leave the excuses at home,” said Ward.
Kovalev, aside from a tweet that promises to end Ward’s boxing career this time around, says:
“I'm glad to know that rematch will happen. I really hope that Andre Ward will get into the ring for this rematch. Fans of boxing will see the real Krusher--the one they have missed for couple of my last fights. For me this rematch is very important as no other bout in my entire boxing career. Thanks a lot to all of boxing fans," said Kovalev.
As highly as the first fight was anticipated among boxing fans, the rematch might have even anticipation considering the escalated tension that exists between the fighters and the fans over the initial fight’s results. Ward vs Kovalev Live
Hey, are you guys pumped yet?!

So, did they have a weigh-in this morning? I don't see any traces of it in google. Is the IBF belt not on stake?

Rigo vs Flores
Can Flores last the distance ?

Re: Ward vs Kovalev 2 RBR Discussion
How good will Wards head movement be this fight plus will Kovalev be a headhunter, that concerns me. On top of all the tackling...etc. This will be a hard fought frustrating fight. Kovalev better be prepared.

Don't tell me either, I want to watch it next month.
Let's send a note to the internet not to tell anyone! I want to watch it on ESPN Classic with my kids someday when I have kids.
