Is there anyone else whos seen the best but still think Lomachenko is the greatest boxer they've ever seen??

I agree but I doubt theres anyone about that he can beat to get the kudos, if you watch him box he's definitely a game changer and head and shoulders aboveThereByTheGrace wrote:One of the best needs a top opponent to get the best from him

I've seldom seen anyone so comfortable, controlled and composed demonstrating so much skill.handsofstone wrote:Pointless drunk thread but in the last couple of years ive watched pretty much every great fight there is , involving Robinson, Ali, Leonard etc

But he has, as ever, to show it at a higher level.
I just don't know who'll test him without moving up 2 or 3 weight classes
But yes, he looks as if he's fighting someone moving at 3/4 time and can just do as he pleases, it's scary
Re: Vasyl Lomachenko
He's something very special, that's for sure. Fitting thread given he's on the cover of the current edition of The Ring magazine. I'm actually interested to find out more about his dad...let's face it, Lomachenko's current ability is rooted in the training regime his dad has imposed since childhood. Stuff like being made to do traditional Ukrainian dancing for 4 years, wrestling as a kid etc (there's a fantastic Lee Wylie vid which I'm sure loads of people on here have seen and it points out Loma's use of grappling - from about 6 mins 10 secs in video - and spinning off an opponent during in fighting to then launch an attack)

Re: Vasyl Lomachenko
He's become very comfortable in the ring.
When he took the title against Russell Jr he was very solid, technically correct and paced the fight just right. Knew when to turn it on, when to turn it off. When to get in range, when to get out.
Now he does some very unorthodox moves like zig zagging around the opponent. It appears that he's even harder to beat now. I don't, however, like how he tries to go on the opponent's blind side, punch, then weave over to the other blind side, and punch again. He wants to hit the opponent the split second that his opponent can't see him. I don't know, I don't like it, doesn't seem especially "honest" way if fighting but it is working for him and you can't deny his skill or confidence.
I do think this new development makes him extra difficult to beat but also if he suffers any decline in his speed and reflexes that he risks getting caught, Naz-like. Also if he faces someone super solid in terms of technique and with above average speed I wonder if you'll see him eating lots of well timed punches.

Re: Vasyl Lomachenko
Whilst i do agree loma is a special fighter and his father has done a very good job with him, im not so sure that the ukranian dancing and wrestling were part of some masterplan put in place to aid a young vasyls footwork and dominating style in clinches.straali wrote:He's something very special, that's for sure. All the ukranians do the dancing its absolutely massive in their culture, male and female. Iirc usyk also did the ukranian dancing.
Wrestling is also popular, its no where near the heightd of their dancing mind.
The wrestling aspect could have far simpler explainations, such as vasyls best friend was into it and it was something they did together.
I do think a few myths are starting to find their way into this young mans modus operendi.
But without a doubt vasyl is a special fighter and absolute joy to watch
Re: Vasyl Lomachenko
I think to get the kudos he'd need to beat a few of the following names: Rigondeaux, Garcia, Santa Cruz, Davis, Linares, Crawford, Pacquiao.handsofstone wrote:I agree but I doubt theres anyone about that he can beat to get the kudos, if you watch him box he's definitely a game changer and head and shoulders aboveThereByTheGrace wrote:One of the best needs a top opponent to get the best from him
Even then there'd be excuses

I keep meaning to ask you, since you've seen a huge amount of the best fights recently, who you thinks the best.
Might it be that we see Vasyl in HD and super slowmo etc but the old boys on herky jerky black and white? It makes it hard to see all the subtle feints, slips and footwork that went on back in the day.
The one thing I think that Vasyl lacks is power. He bewilders opponents rather than destroys them.

Re: Vasyl Lomachenko
Ive got to agree with you regarding the old film being a bit distorted and hard to see subtle moves etc, I love watching Lomachenko more than anyone probably past or present, especially the way he's developing as a pro he's getting even better and evolving by the fight it seems, he's about as good as ive seen, I love Mayweather as well I think he's a bit underated in regards to comparisions with the other greats, none of the others had the longevity Floyd had and the way he dominated his opponents without apparently breaking sweat was impressive, he tailored his style along the way as well, the older guys were a lot more active so that may play a part mind, guys like Robinson, Ali and Duran had success late on but not without a few losses along the way, Mayweather been fighting top level oppnents for a long timeTomasino wrote:handsofstone wrote:Pointless drunk thread but in the last couple of years ive watched pretty much every great fight there is , involving Robinson, Ali, Leonard etc

Also love watching Leonard, Duran. Hearns, Hagler, Benitez, Jones Jr, Holyfield, Sanchez, Gatti, Whitaker, De La Hoya, Frazier, Tyson, Naz, Hatton, Calzaghe, Benn, Arguello, Buchanan, Pryor, Chavez, Louis, Barrera, Morales, Nelson
The list is endless but I struggle to enjoy a lot of the earlier fights with the grainy footage but i'll still watch them, I'm at a point where ive watched pretty much every big fight there is and watched a lot of trilogies etc so now I'm going through boxers careers watching their other big fights, for instance at the moment I'm watching Hagler, i'd already seen his fights with Leonard, Hearns, Duran, Anuofermo(x2) and Minter but I watched the Sibson fight the other day and next I'm gona watch the Mugabi fight next

So I believe, I'm looking forward to it, Mugabe gave Hagler a tough time from what ive read, wasn't that the fight that persuaded Leonard to come out of retirement to face Marvin?Tomasino wrote:handsofstone wrote:Ive got to agree with you regarding the old film being a bit distorted and hard to see subtle moves etc, I love watching Lomachenko more than anyone probably past or present, especially the way he's developing as a pro he's getting even better and evolving by the fight it seems, he's about as good as ive seen, I love Mayweather as well I think he's a bit underated in regards to comparisions with the other greats, none of the others had the longevity Floyd had and the way he dominated his opponents without apparently breaking sweat was impressive, he tailored his style along the way as well, the older guys were a lot more active so that may play a part mind, guys like Robinson, Ali and Duran had success late on but not without a few losses along the way, Mayweather been fighting top level oppnents for a long timeTomasino wrote:

Yes although I've read that SRL was in the gym during his camp for this fight and Hagler had told him he didn't have the fire anymore. Then when SRL seen him struggle with mugabi he called out Marvin and the fight was made. Smart man Ray.

Re: Vasyl Lomachenko
It can definitely be difficult to appreciate the nuances when watching old fights due to the film quality. A pet hate of mine, especially prevalent in fights from the 40s & 50s, is when the TV company have added 'commentary' after the event which tells you what's going to happen before it actually happens.handsofstone wrote:Ive got to agree with you regarding the old film being a bit distorted and hard to see subtle moves etc, I love watching Lomachenko more than anyone probably past or present, especially the way he's developing as a pro he's getting even better and evolving by the fight it seems, he's about as good as ive seen, I love Mayweather as well I think he's a bit underated in regards to comparisions with the other greats, none of the others had the longevity Floyd had and the way he dominated his opponents without apparently breaking sweat was impressive, he tailored his style along the way as well, the older guys were a lot more active so that may play a part mind, guys like Robinson, Ali and Duran had success late on but not without a few losses along the way, Mayweather been fighting top level oppnents for a long timeTomasino wrote:handsofstone wrote:Pointless drunk thread but in the last couple of years ive watched pretty much every great fight there is , involving Robinson, Ali, Leonard etc

Like in Zale Graziano etc. I think it might have been Jim Jacobs or Bill Cayton who dubbed then but I might be wrong.
