Could this week be the worst week in boxing history?

Post by Wales »

Mayweather McGreggor sanctioned and expected to break PPV records

A fighter taking a dive then a ref that doesn't know the rules and takes advice on the result from "a person in the HBO truck"

Then a super fight between two p4p superstars being reffed by a man who was as much use as Stephen hawking with flat batteries.

It's sad alright.
Chucky was delt a real bad hand, and I was picking that to be the fight of the night. Two shots holding and hitting, then the KO after the bell.
Then Ward ending Kov's chances of any more little Krushers being born.
It was a disaster event.
I only hope GGG Canelo doesent turn out like that, but I'm not holding my breath.

And unfortunately a ring death....

Disastrous night. The stoppage was way too soon... The below the belt shots... The farce with both refs in the two fights...

Awful night.

He was bent over not fighting back? What is the referee supposed to do?

He was done.

Give him a count... Or call the low blows...

In a fight if that magnitude I couldn't believe how quickly he called it off. Mr Weeks now rivalling Mr Bayliss as Chief Stooge.

You cannot give a standing eight count. It doesn't exist as a rule anymore.

The blows were quite low but he's bent double. He only has himself to blame for essentially stopping fighting and standing bent double on the ropes. There is no defence for that. He gave up.

Why didn't Kovalev just take a knee?

Your answer to what you say were punches that are against the rules is that the referee should give a count which is not in the rules?

He stopped fighting back, from the big right to the stoppage I don't think Kovalev threw a punch.

Kovalev should work his way back to mandatory ASAP if he is so aggrieved but I think Ward might be off into the sunset before that comes about.

Anything would have been preferable... Including simply doing nothing at all. He made the worst decision he possibly could.

Last time things were this bad was Mayweather-Ortiz or the pantomime of Roid Jones.

He doesn't stop the fight what happens in the next few seconds? He clearly didn't want to throw back, how would it have played out?

Kov drops to the floor. There's a count. Kov stands up complaining. Then the fight re-starts.

Not sure that's what Weeksy wanted though... Too many seconds in which Kov can recover.

For all the bile spouted on these boards British fans get are far, far better deal through Eddie Hearn and F_rank W_arren than the sh1t soup we got last night.

He was getting stopped then or in the next round. He couldn't land anything heavy on Ward and his jab was getting taken out of the fight. It was only heading one way.

He was sat on the end rope; should have been counted, simple really. And as for the referee in the Rigondeaux fight? WTF?? I didn't know we now had TTO in boxing hahahahaha. Utter disgrace.

Also some of the judging from the Belfast show?? Just goes to show that the UK actually do have the best officials - official :TU:

Seriously I do not understand the outrage. It had some low blows for sure but he was worn down and his shitty gas tank let him down plus Ward throw a cracking right hand to turn his legs to jelly which is being totally ignored. At the end he bent over and wanted out of the fight and was showing huge distress signals. After that cracking right hand landed bang on the button he threw nothing and was bullied and beaten around the ring and during it all, a few punches cracked him in the belt.

x2 he didn't protest as the fight was stopped, there were options at the time like take a knee or fight back but he chose to do neither. I've heard many ex pro commentators saying never look to the ref for help, last night was a classic example i'd say.

Exactly how I saw it. He was well beaten in the end, his fearsome badman reputation up in smoke.

He should not have had to take a knee he was hit by an illegal shot. I have no doubt SK was going to get beaten but not like that. The referee has to apply the rules, he was hit by a low blow which means he has up to 5 minutes to recover. There is no doubting the blow was low.

He was already done. Ref was stopping fight due to his lack of response to the sustained beating.

If the referee miss the low blows and deemed they were legal shots then as there are no standing 8 counts in professional boxing the only time a referee can administer a count with a fighter standing is if the ropes are holding him up. As SK was sat on the ropes then Weeks COULD have started counting deeming the ropes were keeping SK from going down. Hope I made this spills enough for you to understand.
