If Kovalev gets robbed again, I won't follow boxing anymore

Does corrupt officiating decrease your enthusiasm for boxing?

Poll ended at 29 Feb 2020, 13:02

Yes. A sport needs to have fair officiating.

No, as long as the boxers I'm a fan of are the ones favored by the officials.

Yup, nothing wrong with dancing IF you're landing, I'd have no problem with a ref telling Ward or any dancing master who's not throwing meaningful shots to start fighting.

IMO if Kovalev fights the exact same fight as the first fight he gets the decision this time because that's usually how it works. I can think of countless circumstances where a guy won the decision in the 2nd fight after being on what was perceived as the short end of the stick the first fight. IMO Ward has to win clearer this time to win another decision.

I'm far from "loathsome" - only a mentally sick person would call me that.

Honestly, I haven't read anything offensive from him in years.

Andre Ward wins by low blows which the referee saw but permitted.

And I'm done with this corrupt sport.

So long dude

He didn't get hit in the balls mate, he got hit on the lowside of the belt when he first started complaining, everyone is saying it was all borderline. He should have manned up at give him one straight back. Thought his complaining was very telling.

I think Kovalev has stamina issues if I am being honest.

Obviously, this time by the corrupt referee.

Sickening.

Ward was allowed to nail Kovalev in the stones as much as he wanted.

I never said I was going to leave this forum or any other. I'll finish my PTBF year since I'm doing fairly well, but I will not participate in future years.

I won't post much in "Current scene" much in the future, but I've come to enjoy the "Off topic" section at BoxRec and will continue to post there.

But as I said, I'm not following or watching boxing anymore, it's too corrupt a sport. I'm sickened by it.

Andre "Son of Golota" Ward. If that was a fair stoppage tonight, than Golota should have got a TKO win for nailing Bowe in the stones.

Why would you want to post in Current Scene at all if you're not following boxing any more?

So you can try to convince the rest of us how "corrupt" boxing is? :brick:

You said you were quitting boxing, don't change your mind now, because otherwise your word is meaningless.

You'll be universally regarded as one massive stinky fishy wet slimy cûnt if you have blatantly lied about quitting following the sport of boxing!

There's no reason for you to ever frequent the Boxing "current scene" board if you're no longer following the sport of boxing.

One thing I don't understand was Kovalev didn't even dispute the stoppage at the time. Why not? If you were OK why didn't you go nuts and demand to know why the ref stopped the fight and didn't see the illegal blows? I think the truth is - Kovalev was that exhausted he couldn't even think straight. He was clearly hurt. To the point he just wanted to sit down. He was hurt to the body pretty badly before the low blows halted the fight.

At first he thought the ref was giving him time to recover from Ward's last big punch to the genitals.

There are so many threads on this subject I don't know where to post. Sort it out mods it's a complete pig's breakfast. I chose this one as it seems to be the longest:

Firstly I had no preference as to who I wanted to win, i just wanted to see a good fight with a conclusion that was free from controversy ... not too much to ask I wouldn't have thought, given the credentials of both boxers.

As it turns out what could have been a good opportunity for the sport to shine, ends up another grubby little stain on it's pages. I feel sorry for Kovalev, (to a much lesser extent) for Ward, for the fans, and for boxing. Yes, you read that right I include Ward because I think Ward was on course to win anyway, unless I'm mistaken and the cause of Kovalev's discomfiture and physical deterioration was purely down to the low blows rather than good old honest gassing out.

I would have liked to have seen weeks give Kovalev time to recover, and to have made Ward understand in no uncertain terms that any repetition would cost him a point, and that it would be three strikes and out. I think he let everyone down there including himself.

I'm not going to overreact though. I have been watching boxing for a very long time, and seen plenty of incidents and decisions ranging from mildly surprising all the way to daylight robbery. I expect to see many more.

He was low blowed early in the round as well and was defending his balls for about 2 minits in the end, even Ward himself seemed surprised he didn't get punished at that moment.
