Ward Won, Get Over It
Re: Ward Won, Get Over It
If I remember right, I was the only one on the board that was pissing and moaning about Khan ending it illegally in the Judah fight. The difference is Khan won the first four rounds and everyone thought he would win easily. Khan wins the first few rounds against anyone almost, then gasses and gets KO'd. He held Juda's head down with his forearm and hit him low to end it. Not one person besides me on this board thought it should have been called. It fell on deaf ears. There was also very little outrage with Maidana vs Floyd in the first one. I guess if you hate the opponent, it magnifys it tenfold?
So hell no, no sympathy from me. Quit your crying folks, the better man won.

It's really hard to believe that on a boxing forum, full of dedicated boxing fans, there is a line of thinking that a referee, standing 2 meters away, shouldn't be held accountable for missing blatant low blows. If the referee is incapable of seeing shots that land below the belt then replace him with someone who can. Again, it's not rocket science.
Ask yourself why didn't Kovalev just take the knee?

What the fornicate is there not to be sure about!?! FFS, he's looking right at it!! It's as clear a blow as you'll ever see for fornicate sake.
Re: Ward Won, Get Over It
You're showing a slow motion replay of a shot that from his POV is obscured by Kovalev's arm. At full speed he can't know that's a low blow. Ricky_ wrote:The whole idea that "kovalev was finished anyway" is such bullshit. If the ref in the AJ v Klitchko fight had stopped AJ in round 5, 6 or 7 everyone would say the same thing: "He was finished anyway". It's almost as if none of you have ever seen a guy ride a storm then find a second win. Happens all the time.
This isn't an argument to legitamize a garbage stoppage with.

The same reason his former teammate Korobov didn't against Lee -- they have never been taught that.Covfefe wrote:He is bent over double. Kovalev does not react to them being low. Well then when you bend over at the waist, take repeated shots and don't throw anything back since being buzzed don't expect the ref not to stop you.boxing_rocks wrote:The same reason his former teammate Korobov didn't against Lee -- they have never been taught that.Covfefe wrote:He is bent over double. Play it from the same angle in real time then. Anyone who can't recognize those shots as low in real time has no business being a boxing referee.Covfefe wrote:You're showing a slow motion replay of a shot that from his POV is obscured by Kovalev's arm. No it isn't, you can see from the replay the knuckle part of Wards glove landing on the 'B' on Kov's shorts, under his arm. He clearly winces in pain from the shot, looks like he yelps out.
This fight should be overturned to a NC on appeal.

Yes, it's quite obvious in SLOW MOTION.Ricky_ wrote:Covfefe wrote:The shots are obscured by his arm, and he does not react to them being low.Ricky_ wrote:

Out of curiosity rick, seeing as his face is aimed away from the camera and you can't see his mouth how are you ascertaining that he helps out in pain?

You can see Kovalev's mouth man... you need to go get your eyes tested man.

The gif you posted does not show his mouth. You're lying.Ricky_ wrote:Covfefe wrote:Out of curiosity rick, seeing as his face is aimed away from the camera and you can't see his mouth how are you ascertaining that he helps out in pain?

Re: Ward Won, Get Over It
If he took a knee, the ref would have ruled it a knockdown because he did not consider the punches as low blows.Covfefe wrote:Why is no one blaming Kovalev for not throwing anything and standing bent over double doing nothing on the ropes? If he needed a break he should have taken a knee.
Re: Ward Won, Get Over It
I think they're more into blaming Ward on this forum. I thought the same about Kovalev, although you can't blame him for being hit low. The ref must have been unsighted for some reason, it's a bit disappointing especially at that level.Covfefe wrote:Why is no one blaming Kovalev for not throwing anything and standing bent over double doing nothing on the ropes? So? He would have had time to recover and not get stopped.RScarf1 wrote:If he took a knee, the ref would have ruled it a knockdown because he did not consider the punches as low blows.Covfefe wrote:Why is no one blaming Kovalev for not throwing anything and standing bent over double doing nothing on the ropes? Re: Ward Won, Get Over It
It is, disappointing because it detracts from Ward's performance he was brilliant last night. And I think he would have gone on to stop Kovalev. It's a shame that it's become controversial.Noxy wrote:I think they're more into blaming Ward on this forum. I thought the same about Kovalev, although you can't blame him for being hit low. 10 seconds to recover and then Ward would be allowed to throw more low blows. He wanted the ref to react to low blows.Covfefe wrote:So?
