Who should Ward Fight Next?

Post by BitPlayer »

Honestly I think another Kovalev fight would be just as close/controversial as the ones we've had.
I think Andonis Stevenson would be the best if it could be made.
At Cruiserweight Briedis or Usyk if he really wants to be a 3 weight champion
He's talking about it, but I think the idea of him go up to heavyweight is flatout crazy. Maybe if Hughie Fury beats Parker. . .

Another promoter for the duration of his career would be fine with me.

If it can be made, the clear answer is Stevenson.

After Ward fighting Kovalev twice in a row, it could be excused if he fought an easier opponent in his next fight (not that Ward really got hit at all). But obviously in the long term, it'd be nice to see him fight Stevenson or Beterbiev. In an ideal world, Beterbiev and Stevenson would fight each other so that the winner would be a super established challenger for Ward. Or even if Ward took an easy fight while Beterbiev or Stevenson fought a very formidable challenger like Gvozdyk, Joe Smith, or Eleider Alvarez; and then the winner meets Ward in a big fight.

On a semi-related note, and I'm not saying this to play bodyguard for Ward, but Beterbiev is doing a really poor job of fighting opponents that would angle him into a super fight. Like, in his last 3 fights, Beterbiev has fought Alexander Johnson, Ezequiel Maderna, and Isidro Prieto. Oh, well that does it, then. If he's fought Gods like... whoever those guys are, then by all means, let's rush him to the front of the line for a super fight. Seriously, Stevenson has done a much better job of distinguishing himself as a top divisional fighter. Beterbiev really needs to compete with better opponents if he has a serious desire to compel his way into a super fight.

Beterbiev, Stevenson, Gvozdyk, Bivol...take your pick. Several interesting options out there for him and Kovalev both. The Light Heavyweight division is pretty deep at the moment.

Honestly, he cant even sell out his own hometown arena in Oakland. His promoter pays his salary at a loss because they cannot recuperate their expenditure from the fans.

I have no interest in watching Andre Ward period. Even the fight last night I didnt actually watch, just caught the highlights.

Maybe Ward should retire, because nobody really cares or wants to see him fight :TU:

This sport has taken a turn for the worse and the truth is Ward would struggle to draw more than 3,000 fans to any of his fights.
