Did you enjoy Prizefighters?

I know I did. I didn't take it too seriously & a loss on one of these shows means nowt to me but a win does mean I keep an eye out on a fighter (I still look for Patrick Mendy's results ).

Would you like to see it back & if so what changes would you make if you were the Czar of Prizefighter?

Would you keep it as it was with a mix of prospects & has beens?

Or just fighters under 25 with less than 15 fights?

Or maybe just veterans? Winner gets a last hurrah.....

Or even have one American, one British, one European, one Central American, one South American, one ex Soviet, one Asian & one wildcard. Actually, that sounds like a porn fantasy of mine but with birds instead of boxers

I liked it. There is something about tourneys thats appealing. The format of prospects and vets was perfect. Although OP sex fantasy doesnt sound too bad either.

Bring it back.

I liked it, and I like tournaments in general. They did seem to saturate us with it for a bit, but in moderation Im a fan.

I enjoy it and its great if you like a bet. Better to have only a couple per year but increase the quality. A mix of a couple of well known veterans and then some up and comers is my preference.

I used to enjoy it in the early days, I remember Rogan winning the first one, it got a bit much in the end though, it got to the point where Eddie was struggling to put shows on due to the lack of fighters in his stable and the amount of TV dates he had to fill so we were treated to a Prizefighter every month or so, hard to imagine now with Hearn having one of the biggest stables I the world

As for Mnedy wasn't he fighting on the Zeuge card at the weekend?

Yeah. Okay as a novelty, but the novelty ran out when you were doing it all the time.

A pet hate of mine was (particularly when Dave Clark was the anchor) a prizefighter "loser" was dubbed a "prizefighter quarter finalist" in subsequent fights.

I don't think they should be recorded on a guys record though.

They could do a PF show thats only (unrecorded) quarters and semi's and give the 2 finalists a nice undercard spot on a high profile event. Who doesn't enjoy a bit of tournament format?

I agree, I feel they should be only recorded on their record if it is a four rounder.

I think both Eddie and FW are missing a trick by not having more tournaments, not necessarily in prize fighter format (all in one day) but over the course of a few weeks like the French Cup or Boxcinio. I know though it just doesn't seem to work in the UK (e.g. the Channel 5 tournament with Henessy) - but I think the concept is good.

We just seem to get more injuries and pull outs than other countries with a similar concept.

in moderation prizefighter was good

maybe one every 3 months would be ok, but all at catchweight so they could cover a few of the weight divisions.

Prizefighter was good at the start. Unfortunately Matchroom completely milked it. As a once a year thing I think it's great.

Very surprised in the absence of a "Summer Football Tournament" that Sky haven't come up with something to fill their 5 dedicated sports channels.....

we need a heavyweight prizefighter. I like the format and at least we get to see plenty of fights and it keeps fighters active. Eddie only really seems interested in PPV nowadays though and I suspect that explains the decline of Prizefighter.

I don't know why they stopped doing them in the first place.

They just did too many of them and the quality was very poor for some of them.

A couple a year is probably the right amount and keep the quality high.

This would probably be overkill but a good format could be a staggered tournament; it gives punters full cards and keeps there interest for the next one.

Say quarter finals / semi finals & final are on different nights to allow competitors time to recover and train for their next opponent.

Once you get 3 started you could have a conveyer belt so a typical card could look like:

4x quarter finals (lightweight - new tourny)

2x semi finals (bantamweight)

1x final (supermiddleweight)

---

A month later another card will then continue:

4x quarter finals (welterweight, new tourny)

2x semi finals (lightweight, the 4 winners from previous card)

1x final (2 bantams from previous card)


You still get 7 fights, quarters, semis and finals but the staggered nature would allow for a bit of build-up, marketing and hopefully lead to better quality fights. Maybe even up the rounds. Unrecorded 3 rounders in quarters. Recorded 4 rounds in semis and 6 round fight in final.

I admit, I quite enjoyed them, they gave an opportunity for lesser known fighters to get on tele and make a few Bob and they sometimes made for very entertaining scraps (though not always).

There are some stagnant divisions in this country which could get a bit of a boost from a tournament right about now.

Early days it was ok when they had better lineups. then they overdid it and I lost interest, I assume so did most other people based on them stopping it.

I liked it but it got overkill in the end and the line ups didn't always gel. To me it was better with fighters from the small hall scene hungrier to impress.

The best thing about it for me was another way of giving fighters from the small hall scene the chance to get on sky and then get on big shows afterwards. Look at Terry Flanagan, Martin Murray ( theres going to be a lot.)

Plus you got COMPETITIVE FIGHTS

I also thought the format sky got near the end was quite good. They would do a prizefighter then have a title fight on the card and a prospect.

I think they should bring it back twice a year. Replace these crap Nxtgen cards which are using Sky dates. Competitive fights get a prospect or two out instead of on a PPV and give a guy a headline title fight.
