Why do you say that and I hope you are being sarcastic. The work of the names you mentioned was clean and crisp in terms of boxing and punching ability. This grindy dirty looking fighting is not attractive and I hope not inspirational. I appreciate he appears to be a good role model and how intelligence can overcome brute force and the man vs the bully storyline played out but I don't buy into it/that and the way Ward portrays himself. Him and his team have been just as nasty as Kovalev and co albeit a little more subtle.
I agree with 3G. Boxing is not soccer. You are not likely to get away with acting like you have been shot when someone lands a love tap on your beltline.
SOGgy is the perfect boxing role model for today. A kid watching him fight will make no mistake about boxing being a romantic endeavor of heroism. SOGgy demonstrates what boxing in reality is; two men fighting with a ref interfering as little as possible and three people judging from different angles subjectively.
"The sweet science" is not pretty. It is two men trying to ktfo each other or win more of the 12 three minute battles than their opponent during the process of trying to knock his ass out.
SOGgy is the perfect lunch bucket ambassador for the reality of boxing, including the facts that he is a responsible, well spoken, law abiding family man outside of the ring.
Yes Tanzio I understand where you are coming from and you are not wrong. Although I look at things differently. I've heard many comments from people who are not fans of combat sports describing boxing and mma as disgusting, barbaric..etc. Personally I see boxing/combat sports as an empowering exerience as conflict is a part of life, but I mean you dont need to take it as far as the pro ranks. Choose to stop being the victim (if this is the case and if you can) or to challenge yourself.
Basically though it is two people trying to knock each other's heads off as you say but both are (generally) willing and prepared. Willing and choosing to challenge themselves by putting their body and mind to the test. The mental strength needed to willingly engage in conflict, something which many actively avoid is admirable and showcases the power of human will. I feel, depending on how you interpret it, this is not just inspirational to combat sports persons but people in general. A firefighter, a student wanting to complete a law degree, etc, basically humans challenging and (hopefully) bettering themselves.
But the thing is its meant to be fair, something that life is not. It's one on one, no guns, no gangs, rules and options to opt out. Ward bends and sometimes breaks those rules. Fine thats the reality of life but can't we have one thing in this world that is pure? Saying that Kovalev should have been prepared for the rough house tactics, he had just fought and experienced Ward. He was tiring but the fight was so close. He got hurt by clean head shot in the 8th but didn't drop. The tipping scale was the ball shots which you want to acknowledge or not but the last one was clear. Winning at all costs might be Ward's way but it is not be something I applaud.
If you want to watch something pure spectate tennis or chess. Boxing has never been pure. I watch it
because it is an interesting and brutal microcosm of life.
Boxing is interesting
because SOGgy can compete with people with the appearance of more skill and gifts and outsmart them, getting them out of their comfort zones. Boxing is interesting
because a Maidana can succeed in a way that was unlikely to ever happen in any other pursuit for him.
I acknowledge the final shot was low. I also acknowledge that several other low blows were landed by both fighters. The difference is that one fighter did not even acknowledge that low blows were being landed on him, and the other fighter was acting like he was trying out for a part in a soap opera.
As I have stated repeatedly, I feel that SOGgy and I were cheated by Weeks. I wanted to witness the complete humbling by total beatdown of Krushedner and his squealing pig legions.
Weeks doomed us all to months, if not years of absolute sore losers howling like pussies in heat.
Krushedner got his ass kicked and he should be ashamed of his cowardly ring conduct. Dude can't handle it to the body, plain and simple. He was looking for Weeks to bale him out of there with the victory.
Weeks literally saved his soft bodied ass.
Enjoy the tennis and chess competitions.
